How I fixed my MTW2 and Kingdoms install problems
Good Day,
This is how I fixed my install problems. I don't say that it will work for you, but for any of you out there that have the same sort of problem and are frustrated, it may help and that's all I can offer.
I had always had problems installing MTW2 ( CRC errors in SFX , etc. ), and could never get the updates to install or Kingdoms to install. I tried many different things and had pretty much resigned myself to just running version 1.0 with all the bugs. Although I modified my game so that the timurids never appeared so I didn't have the elephant crash problem.
At any rate, after months went by, I was interested in getting Visual Studio express 2008 on my machine to study the newer version and do some development work. I could not get it to download and install correctly.
Well, it turns out that my net framework was hosed for some reason. I ended up having to uninstall all the net frameworks on my machine, run a net framework cleanup program and delete all NET folders. I then made sure I had all updates available for Win XP. Then I ran a MSI cleanup program, reinstalled NET framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5, plus all service packs.
After I did this VS 2008 installed and ran perfectly.
So, today I am sitting around and I think "hey, I wonder..." so I get the update files for MTW2 and what do you know, NOW they install perfectly. Then I pop the Kingdoms disks in and they install and run just fine.
So there you have it. It's worth a shot if you just can't get the updates to install correctly, or even the original MTW2 disks.
Hope it helps someone else.
