RTW: Alexander won't install

I downloaded RTW: Alexander. I have Vanilla updated to 1.5. However, when I attempt to install Alexander I get an error saying that "no prior installation of Rome Total War has been found", and that the program will exterminate. I reinstalled Vanilla, and attempted to install Alexander on every version, including 1.5 again. I have still not yet come to fruition.

Can anybody help me for a rep?

Well, if you want to use RomeTW-ALX.exe with mods or vanilla, just copying the .exe file and chat_filter.san (see EB's alexander files)

For the alexander expansion itself, IMHO it's disappointing - the campaign is too damn small.

I don't get that post, how do you get the alx.exe and the other thing WITHOUT Alexander?

If you read the post aqd does not state that.

Simply put: if you want to use the Alexander exe you can use the exe and the chat_filter.san file (which comes with an installed version of Alexander).

The only legal way to get these files is to buy the game - you probably need to have an installed version of R:TW Alexander to see them (rather than get them off the disc or download file).

You don't need to do the edits to the files. What will happen is that some family members / generals will become immortal (in that they can be killed on the battlefield but won't be affected by old age). The editing removes the immortal trait and does not add it in.

Greetings mate, I might have a solution for you. The following info is from the official Total War forums/website.

It has come to our attention that the space requirement test on installation always checks the C: drive for space rather than the target drive directory. Alexander requires approximately 451MB of free drive space so this must be free on your C: drive regardless of where the original game was installed to. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

We've had a number support queries with the Alexander expansion that can easily be solved by ensuring that you have the correct version of Rome: Total War before installing Alexander. Here's a guide... If you have Barbarian Invasion please check what version you are running (start the game go to the option screen, it's displayed in the top right). If you have 1.6 you can install Alexander. If you have 1.4 please download and install the 1.6 patch before installing Alexander. Links to all the patches can be found below.

For those of you without Barbarian Invasion please do the following before trying to install Alexander. Start the game go to the option screen, it's displayed in the top right. If you are running 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 please download and install patch 1.3 and then download and install patch 1.5. If you are already running 1.3, please download and install 1.5. Once you have done this you can then install Alexander. Links to all the patches can be found below.

Before installing patch 1.5 did you install patch 1.3 ?

Can you confirm which version of RTW you are installing over? If you are unsure launch RTW and the option number of the game is on the top right hand side of the options menu.

You should also have used the search facility before posting your problem in the forum (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showp...03&postcount=1).

When you try and apply RTW do you have the correct game folder in the target box?

I recently installed Alexander from a DVD I bought and the install tried to install into a random folder - not the official Activision one that I have from the original RTW 1.0 install but a mod and not the most recent mod that I'd installed either.

The installer of Alexander TW doesnt give me the option to select a folder , it just say

btw my RTW is inside this folder C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War

I have the same exact problem, so its not any one thing we are doing wrong, and google shows a bunch of threads with the same problem, but so far I cant find an answer.

I just bought RTW Alexander also and I am having the exact same problem! It seems that it has something to do with the digital/CD/DVD format of the RTW Alexander. I think it is not compatible with Rome Total War on the CD/DVD. I was really looking forward to play LOTR mod

I have heard that there is some compatability problems between downloaded games and CD-ROM / DVD-ROM games. Unfortunately, it's all caused by the number of pirates out there......

The 'New Shadow' LOTR game runs on RTW BI.
