Can we change factions mid-game?

RTW has a cheat that lets you switch factions mid game. Can that cheat be used for M2TW? What about editing saved games? Or some other way? I like to build large empires and pit them against each other.

There is some hotseat function that can do something like that, but someone else would have to tell you how to enable it.

I cannot give you a link to hotseat, thanks to disablation of the search function, but when you enable it in your preferences.cfg file, you can type 'control x' into your console to control a different faction (x is the name of the faction), and then 'control y' while y is the name of the faction you played previously.

i have tried this (i put the hotseat jargon into preferences etc) but for some reason it won't let me change faction. it accepts it as a valid entry into the console (doesn't come up saying 'i have no idea what this means' etc) but just does nothing, and so am very confused.
any ideas from anyone?

You have to be playing a hotseat campaign. I think Kingdoms has a hotseat campaign button somewhere on the main menu, probably under multiplayer. You will know you are going to start a hotseat campaign if you can select multiple faction icons on the faction selection screen.

If you type control x in the console and nothing happens, not even an error message, then you arent playing a hotseat campaign.

Search for 'faction swapping' in the forum.

I would also like to know how to faction swap in Rome. Its a great feature that keeps me interested in playing more than 100 turns into a campaign by taking on a fresh challenge with a weak faction.

Forgot to answer it on my last post.

1: Play in hotseat.

2: Open console.

3: Type in the following line; control England (if you want England)

4: End turn.

5: When being England, type; control France (if your previous faction was France and you only wish to control England), France is now switched back to AI control.
