I've got ports in both towns, but no sea trade is happening. Is there any use in building ports in these settlements or can they only trade with Jedda, which at the moment doesn't count for me because it is in the hands of the enemy?

This probably doesn't help but I think that you can't really trade with yourself; you need to get some trade rights up and running. That might not be right but it seems logical.
I think you most certainly can trade with yourself, otherwise I would have no trade at all, I'm currently at war with the entire known world except Spain.![]()
Dongela does trade with Cairo but it is land trade. This is actually a shame because sea trade is more profitable. Cairo usually trades with Jedda but once you have a shipwright Cairo could trade with Dongela.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.
Tosa will be missed.
I'm sure I've seen those dotted lines going between those ports before (and I owned them) and saw boats going between them.
On an unrelated subject, but I don't want to spam the forum with several new threads asking questions: Is it just me or most of the times the Turkish Generals don't even have a speech before the battle? I've had many occasions where the general says nothing, but the army give their elated shouts as if they just heard I'm say the most inspired of phrases... Is it a bug in my game or does this happen to everybody?
I think it takes a while before speeches start. I don't pay that much attention to them and they aren't as good as Rome's speeches.
I don't pay that much attention either, I just noticed when I was already well into my campaign. I just realized it when I got a couple of colurful characters in my family tree and wanted to hear if they any thing more interesting to say than the regular banter. It seems they didn't have anything at all to say.
Turkish generals don't have speeches. They have a one-liner and that is it.

But most of my cases they don't even get that one-liner, it's just silence followed by an apreciative army roar.
Back somewhat on topic, I notice that when I went to build a warehouse for Cairo that the city report showed that there would be no (absolutely none) increase at all from constructing it. It seems that Jedda or Dongala have to have ports, in which case the sea trading potential for Cairo may be more limited that usual for such a large city.
