Roy Scheider, the actor best known for his role as a police chief in the blockbuster movie Jaws, has died. He was 75.

Scheider died today at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hospital in Little Rock, hospital spokesman David Robinson says. The hospital is not releasing his cause of death.

However, hospital spokeswoman Leslie Taylor says Scheider had been treated for multiple myeloma at the hospital's Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy for the past two years.

I can tell you now that I will always remember him for blowing up sharks. I have already come up with a list of films to watch as part of Roy Scheider marathon next week.

I greatly enjoyed SeaQuest DSV as a kid. I had a ritual every Saturday of going to the Post Office to get a roll of cherry-flavoured sweets and a Coke to watch the episode with.

Of course now the show seems totally ridiculous. A talking dolphin? Jesus Christ, but I was easily pleased as a child.

I don't really remember him from much. Also, I thought for a second this thread said "Rob Schneider is dead".

We can only hope that this comes to pass. Preferably sooner rather than later.

Same for me, other than Jaws i don't really remember him from anything. Also i thought he already was dead which lead me to believe this was a Rob Schneider thread.

Tear it up Roy! 2010, the year we make contact IMHO was the best movie you did outside of JAWS.

So did I, which made it a double blow to me. It's terrible knowing he died twice for me.
