    Default black square shields

This keeps happening to my models with round shields, i need the black parts to be invisible how do i do this I have gimp?

ps I think my dds converter is making the black black instead of making it register as invisble. has anyone ever encountered this. sorry im new to skinning.

I encountered this problem when using the dds converter myself and unfortunately I was not able to fix it. The only solution was to start using Photoshop.

The black shape is the part of the model which hasn't removed by an alpha channel, check out the Gimp tutorial, I'm pretty sure alpha channels are covered.

Of course, Gimp is the free alternative to using Photoshop, so I should have adviced it to you first

Get the DDS plug-in for GIMP, its pretty useful. I haven't been able to get alpha channels to work if I have more than one layer, so make sure if you copy-paste it goes on the background layer and doesn't create a new one.

I only use gimp - I had the same problem.

To correct this I started converting the DDS files into PNG's and then after changes have been made, converting back into a DDS. No more black boxes. I use version 2.2 on the converter. Try it and see if it works for you.
