    Default Hardest faction to play

    Playing Platinum 1.9 + Alex.exe + 4tpy

Tried Sarmatians, built a stack of HAs and that was it.

Tried Greeks, recalled Pyrrhus, made him take Rhodes and again, that was it.

So, I've looked at the Parthians and Armenians. The Parthians have more early army but much less choices to expand.

Which faction seems hardest to play for you?

    Parthians is easy.

Armenians is not hard because seleucid doesn't focus on you and AI parthians is plain stupid.

What about germans? Their barracks cannot produce any german units outside of the north-west europe. It should become difficult if you allow the eastern factions to grow stronger

Don't like barb factions since they only support cities up to minor city and have so much less to build.

yup - but wont that be a challenge?

and since people have suggested elsewhere that the game is 'ridiculously easy' (and yep - especially if you are the romans you're just too powerful) - why not have a go at one of the barbarian factions? -

AND play it without modding it to make it easier - i.e. with all the limitations imposed on you by the game -

You can give those buildings to them, just like what I did

Numidia can be very hard in the beginning, but once you start to win against Carthage, it becomes not so hard. I just played a campaign as Numidia on VH campaign, medium battles, but I gave up on that game for now, it became boring once I kicked Carthage out of Africa.

You've made quite a few changes to RTR, I wouldn't even say you're playing it anymore

Yeah, I found that I have the tendency to modifiy every RTW mods after I know how to do it The only mod I didn't edit is EB, but it's really too slow to play.

BTW in doing so I would hardly get tired of the game because there are always new units, new warfares, and new challenges.

No, it ain't at all - with my build-all-the-time policy I'm out of builds a few decades in the game and then I have to spend all that money for troops to avoid hitting 50k, at which point it's like sending out stack after stack.

    And I don't like when I can't manage my own cities. :p

I found Germania to be an interesting challenge. You start in the hinterlands with pretty much nothing. To win, you must conquer most of Europe, including Roma. Your best troops are similar to Hastati, but vastly weaker. It taught me how to fight while massively outnumbered using generally inferior troops. Your one big advantage is that your elite infantry inspire fear in your enemies...

Many factions are challenging in the early game. It's rare for them to stay so. Germania was a consistent challenge because you really don't have anywhere to go to get a major income in the early to mid game. I didn't really start getting ahead financially until I had conquered Germania east to the Sarmatians, Gaul, and Britannia. Around that point it became time for me and the Maks to go toe to toe. You know you have mastered the German armies when you can chew through 3 full stacks of Maks in one turn.

I been using the Gauls for quite some time. I have Plat.1.9+metro, 4tp year version in very hard both campaign and battle. I still haven't win my campaign and restarted a few times.
It's extreme because you start with a poor economy and all surrounding lands are poor. Their units are weak against missiles, long hand to hand battles and for this reason it requires some strategy to win battles. Also if you don't start conquering fast sooner or later your surrounded by 5 enemy factions that will eat you alive. It's fun and a good challenge for the ones who consider civilized factions easy.

It might depend on the mod you play too.
