Default Many slots, but few units to recruit

There is a problem with the recruiting system. a Castle supports 5 slots for recruitment. But the time you need till recruitment is replenished is extremly long. Sometimes you have to wait 4 or 5 rounds till you can recruit the same unit. Where is the benefit of having so many slots, when recruitment pool is all the time empty. Soin my ERE campaign imrunning out of forces because of this weired system.
And second i am on round 89 and so far any from my castle reached fortress status. My enemy (Turks) still hasn't got any citadel. Is there a new script working, that slows down growth ?

??? I'm playing with the Byzantines and I can train 2-3 units at the same time, and retrain multiple units. I love the new recruitement system because you cannot deploy a super-elite army (it was that way in History) and must rely on levies and mercenaries. In my previous as the Caliphate I was training 3 units per year and per castle.

Playing VH/VH and I'm didn't still run out of forces, I disbanded all latinikoi and other expensive cavalry because I cannot afford them but yep, my first battles are really hard. But I think it's the price you should pay to develop your economy, farming, markets, ports, get more population and reach faster the Fortress level of troops.

I believe it is better to recruit good units more rarely it is making the game more challenging and also the slow growth of cities and with more population need for upgrade is more realistic.I was tired in vanilla to do the same, waiting few turns-upgrade my castle or city and attack the enemy with stacks full of elite units. It is also prevailing you from a blitz playing style. And finally you can really rely now in good mercenary units(in vanilla only the great bombard and the serbian knights were worthy for hiring)

This takes to much time. 4 rounds for a stupid market, there is something wrong

Munich the general "strategy" of the game is to build your empire slow and steady and not rush in play. This is my personal opinion

but after 89 round i should get rid of this turks and and pay attention to other faction around. Especially when they are becoming so huge.

You don't need fortresses or elite troops to beat the turks. My ERE armies that I beat the Turks with consisted mostly of the early spearmen units, reinforced with some mercs and cavalry.

I like the BC recruitment and building system very much. It requires you to plan ahead and tailor your armies according to need and what's available. You can't build super stacks. Also the slow growth and expensive buildings forces you to focus on few key town and castles instead of trying to make them all into huge metropolises.

You played vanilla too much. Slot and replenish rates are fine. You're still able to recruit many low units at the same time and high, elite units are logically less numerous and longer to retrain. Enough of the 100% knights army from vanilla. Most troops at this time were low quality

You'll notice the replenish rates are only really long for the really good units. This makes sense really, as the majority of your armies should be the stock rank-and-file, not the elites.

I'm with the majority on this thread, the recruiting is great in BC and gives an actual sense of building up your empire slowly as opposed to a straight up blitz.

only prob is having to wait so long to recruit the cooler units...eg. the faris lancers for abbasids, even though i think they were no longer in use in the mods time frame yet you need to build up to recruit them

but atleast they have sorted that in 1.1 and everything else is grand
