Default Second Age Total War Mod Thread

    Updated 9/2/08

    About Mod:

The Second Age Total War is a mod mainly based on the War of the last Alliance/ the last years of the Second Age. This is no new mod, but it still has a lot of work to be done. I am not sure for what Rome Total War yet, but when i come to conclude planning, I shall decide.

    "But there were some...who resisted.
A last alliance of Men and Elves marched against the armies of Mordor. On the slopes of Mount Doom they fought
for the freedom of Middle- Earth."
Lady Galadriel, Recounting the second age

    Factions

Kingdom of Gondor and Arnor Hard
    Elven Alliance Hard
    Mordor Medium
Dwarven Alliance (Dwarves of Khazad-dum and Moria) Hard
    Easterlings Very Hard
    Southrons Hard

Rhûn Concept Units: (Still working on)

Description: Men of Rhûn, later known as the men of the east, are a collection of tribes, united against one foe: Gondor. Great chieftains lead the men of Rhûn to battle. Rhûnish units are relatively lightly armoured and armed, making them very weak in head on combat, but excel as shock troops and flankers. Only a skilled player will gain supremacy with this faction.

Advantages: Lightly armoured units with great stamina and morale, powerful ambushers and flankers.
Disadvantages: Weak head on combatants, lack of professional army material, relatively powerless faction at start, Lack of cavalry, Lack of Siege Engines

    Scale of Power
    IIIIIIIIII

Rhûn Spear Warband: A Rhunish warband consists of Tribesmen armed and armoured by High Chieftains, and fight together as one. A rhunish spear is similar to a Mordor spear, however, it is longer and made of tougher material.
Rhûn Warband: A Rhunish warband consists of Tribesmen armed and armoured by High Chieftains, and fight together as one. Armed with a bronze sword and leather shields, these men are substantially adept at combat.
Tribesmen of Khand- Well off soldiers that are armoured lightly and armed with a crooked Spear.
Rhûn Chieftain: A chieftain of Rhun and his bodyguard of soldiers, mounted on chariots.
Rhûn Warbows: A Rhunish warband consists of Tribesmen armed and armoured by High Chieftains, and fight together as one. Armed with a rhunish hunting bow, these men are excellent ambushers.
Tribesmen of the East: The most common unit in a Rhunish army: tribesmen from all parts of the east.
Easterling Scouts: Scouts consist of tribesmen adept with a bow and an arrow, expert ambushers and well off fighters.
Rhûn Seafarers: A very powerful unit: seafarers are men who live near the sea of Rhun and are experts at spear throwing, perfect for cutting down enemy ranks.
Rhûnish Stalkers: Stalkers are a mysterious folk. They are given this name by the men of Gondor, describing their great hiding ability, yet having an unmatchable attack.
Easterling Stone Thrower- A primitive form of catapult, faring less damage and less accuracy.
Rhûnish Chariot Riders - A wagon pulled by strong horses and mounted with deadly tribesmen with throwing spears.

Note: When Rhunish peoples conquer land containing Mordor production buildings, they can produce any mordor unit.

Southrons Concept Units: (still working on)

Description: The Men of the South, known commonly as Southrons or Haradrim. Their army is very strong, with the ability to crush enemy foes with ease. However, the creation of Haradrim soldiers takes a lot of time, making the conquering process slow. In order to build armies quicker, Harad must take the cities of Gondor.

Advantages: Excellent variety of Infantry, Cavalry and Missile Troops, Mumakil, Control large amounts of land
Disadvantages: Slow economic growth in cities, Units take long time to build, Lack of Heavy and Medium infantry.

    Scale of power

    IIIIIIIIII

Serpent Warriors- Only the mightiest warriors take arms in this unit. Serving under a serpent legionary banner is an honour for any man of the south, making this unit a mighty foe.
Haradrim Scouts- Horse Riding archers that scan the battle-lines for enemy weakness and strike them with arrows.
Haradrim Blow-Pipers- Lightly armoured warriors wielding the fabled blow-pipe, effective against any infantry.
Haradrim Horse-riders- Tribesmen from Haradrim tribes that fight on horseback, similar to their foot-armed counterparts.
Haradrim Chieftain-A Haradrim Chieftain and his personal bodyguard.
Great Men of Far Harad-Also known as troll-men, these warriors cut all in their path into a bloody swathe.

Southron Catapult- Very similar to the numenor catapult, great accuracy and good damage remains in this reincarnation.

Gondor and Arnor (Numenor) Concept units:

Description: The armies of Gondor and Arnor lead by High King Elendil. Though new kingdoms, Gondor and Arnor retain their strength from the old kingdom, Numenor. The armies of Gondor and Arnor are disciplined and strong, but they are reasonably expensive to build and quite long to train.

Advantages: Disciplined and Powerful soldiers with high morale, Powerful Navy
    Weaknesses: quite expensive

Númenor Siege Bow- The siege bow of numenor comes of little worth in a Gondor and Arnor army, but it is still effective at skewering multiple foes at once.
Númenor Town Militia - Part-time soldiers are often draughted in the militia. They fight as reserves, and can fill any army.
Numenor Coastal Guard - Numenoreans are great sea-people, and defending their seas from naval invasion is very important. A Garrison of Coastal Guards in a seaside town can keep any foe away. Special Unit
    Pelagir Infantry- Special Unit

    Elven Alliance Concept units:

Silvan Spearmen- The Spearmen of Northern Greenwood and Lothlorien. Equally competent as their Noldor allies

    Mordor Concept Units: (with descr)

Description: The mordor army, lead by the dark lord Sauron. The tip of Mordor's strength lies in its numbers. Sauron's soldiers are neither disciplined or well equipped nor skilled in combat, but they can be made easily.

Weaknesses: Lack of disiplined, organised troops, Lack of Cavalry, No Navy

    Scale of Power

    IIIIIIIIII

Orcish warband- Warbands of orcs are common in the plains of mordor. They are sent out by the dark lord to scout the borders of mordor. They are reasonable melee combatants.
Orcish Spear Warband- The orcish spear is crudely made, tipped with poison and jagged shaped. It serves its purpose, but it's wielders come short of effective.
Orcish Archer Warband- The Mordor bow is a composite bow that fires iron arrows which can pierce most soldiers. Orcish archers are clumsy bowmen, most accustomed to firing large volleys of arrows.
Orc Rabble- The workers of the dark lord, Sauron's industrial tools, used to make almost anything. They rarely see combat, but when the need arises, they do their job.
Orc Snaga- The smallest and least useful orc, the snaga also lack in intelligence. Although, they make experts at running away.

Mordor Spear Legionaries- Sauron's disciplined legions, forming ranks and fighting like real soldiers. Although, they do not have the confidence of their mannish foes and are reasonably weak at combat.
Lesser Mordor Spear Legionaries- Lesser Mordor Legionaries consist of smaller orc, who still retain the discipline of their greater comrades, yet suffer in melee and morale.
Hill Trolls- Trolls that are most accustomed to daylight, these trolls have a very strong hide, making them have great defensive capabilities. These trolls make excellent frontline troops.
Mountain Trolls- Trolls who excel in stamina and combat, yet have a relatively weak hide, making them good as support troops.
Cave Trolls- Trolls that are less accustomed to daylight, these trolls are excellent combatants, but often flee before they have a chance of showing their superiority.
Goblin Hunters- Goblins are a lesser form of orc, accustomed to darkness. They move on all fours, while fight on two legs. They are armed with manslaying crude weapons from Mordor.
Mordor Scouts- The orcs of mordor are assigned specific duties. Orcs that are chosen as scouts usually end up with many arrows in their gut. Scouts are slightly better archers of mordor and can hide in grass.

It does say Numenor here, and that seems to be it's primary name to me.
Well I'll take your word for it

1)There will be a faction called "Dwarven Alliance".

The map will go east as far as Rhun and Eastern Mordor.

Yes, the mod focuses on the War of the Last Alliance, which occurs anywhere from Eriador on the West to Dagorlad on the east.

The only thing i may suggest is that if you really want such mod to be finished you should make it a submod for the one of the existing LOTR mods.

ps. this doesn't sound too good:
As you might not know, I am not very good at modding.
Instead you should write ie. i'm currently reading the tutorials on coding and scripting and downloaded GIMP so that i can also skin some units.

Hey, i say I'm not very good at modding, but I am still modding nevertheless. I am also hoping for contributions such as models and skins.

The kingdom of Numenor isn't realistic at all, since numenor vanished into the sea..
Just make it the combined kingdoms of arnor and gondor, or even better seperate them (As they were during the war)

What I'd like to see is a First age mod, with morgoth and feanor and stuff

    HRknight2,
you should take your first step by yourself, make a strong base for the Mod,and then you can organize your team to improve the Mod base to a good Mod.

    Best wishes

I personally want it to be a stand-alone, but if I had the choice, I would become a submod of METW.
