    Default RTW2 or ETW

Which would you have preferred, the new glorious looking Empire total war, with it's naval battles and improved diplomacy, indian raids etc. or would you have gone absolutely crazy if instead of MTW2 our friends at CA would've gone ahead and made RTW2 (bugless and uncrappy as opposed to MTW2)

This question did bug me for a while, but now my mind seems set on wishing for a RTW2, despite my huge urge to go on the warpath and take over north america as the Sioux..or the Huron...if they get that in depth to the indians. I can't help but love the classic rise of the roman empire situation, with egypt bound to become the glistening kingdom as it always does, an invasion from the east as usual and barbarians up the bunghole, along with macedons phalanxes of doom.

    What are all your thoughts?

I would have preferred a re-make of Shogun or a TW based in Asia over both, but when given the option I avoid muskets and cannons (I even disabled them in my M2TW) so RTW2.

I say ETW because the game looks awesome in its self and you know that theres no way someone won't make a conversion to the Roman Empire.
"So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

I'm still playing RTW and waiting on RTW mods, I don't need a R2TW.

I always protested against a 1800s style TW. What kind of units will u get in a game like that? U'll get less unit variety than a WWI game!!!!!!! So bascially we'll have another clone factions game like M2TW with one 10th of the units with even less variety, combined arms, and tactics. We pretty much already have the units we'll get in ETW (the gunpowder units in M2TW). And sea battles shouldn't be a new feature. it should've been a feature already in M2TW. But then again how fun could commanding afew wooden ships be? If I wanted to see sea battles I want air craft carriers and subs, not a couple of wooden ships, where's the dimension? the combined arms? Whats stopping everyone from just spamming the largest ship in the game? Rather than CA dong something logical and worth while like Rome 2 or China they want to do the absolute worst era for a video game (well maybe caveman is worse). If I wanted to play a 1800s style game I can just play M2TW without the gunpowder requirements or Rise of Nations (BTW in Rise of Nations the Enlightenment era is probably the lamest era). There's a reason why very few games are based on the 1800s its because there is no unit variety, no tactics involved, and no fun.
even movies based on the 1800s are few (compared to other eras) if I'm not mistaken.
Simply put, seeing a line of people standing and slowly reloading their muskets and firing is not interesting. It was amusing in Rise of Nations but not in Total war.
In conclusion I think Empires total war is a horrible idea to begin with and should never even been considered (BTW if people want to see 1800s naval battle they can play Rise of Nations, everything is in Rise of Nations in fact)
And I do not want see Japan based game. This is because Japan is overated, China is much cooler in terms of ancient military. In a game set in the East. China should be the main show with japan being secondary.

it is definity time for Shogun2 TW. I cant belive they pretty much scrapped the whole shogun era. A China TW would be cool too but my first choice would still be Shogun 2. as far as Empires TW, I have absolutly no desire at all. I seem to be in the minority but I really like M2TW and would be really pumped for R2TW and , as already stated, S2TW.

I agree with happykiller.......two lines of muskets standing and shooting at one another will get boring quick. Just line up to rows of archers and have them fire back and forth you'll pretty much get the same action.

it should have gone STW, MTW, RTW, S2TW, M2TW, R2TW.....with maybe a China total war thrown in there and why not an Egyptian Dynasty TW. or a Persia TW or even a Golden Horde TW

I dsiagree with another shogun Total war.
Japan is overrated, VERY overatted, a shogun 2 total war would have even more problems than M2TW, Namely the clone faction wars everyone will be japanese everyone will pretty much have the same thing.
More importantly japan is overatted, VERY OVERATED
China is underated by all means, Ancient Chinese military is the most advanced military by the ancient ages China also had flame throwers like the Byzantines, Chinese weapons are much cooler than western counterparts. For example western spears are just sticks with a point on them, while Chinese spears (at least some of them) has a blade at the end rather than just a point, this enables the user slash and stab rather than just poke. While Chinese halberds feature double sided axe blades and spike at the tip, and it has the ability to hook and break weapons. China also invented the crossbow a thousand years before the west. I can on and on about ancient Chinese military but that would take too long.

As for Japan, I do think they're VERY overated but they are still interesting. So in an asia based TW game Japan most certainly should be in there. But I'm just saying that China should be a bigger priority. Kind of like in RTW Romans are very important, but the Greeks are also in there.
So I would hate to see a Japan centered TW game, but I would rather all of asia be represented rather than just be represented by a tiny island and one small group of people.
Now ETW as i have said earlier, is a terrible idea!!!!! In fact you would have to be nuts to make a game focused on that era. I mean can anyone think of an era with lamer battles than the 1800s?? (besides caveman obviously)
Between ETW and R2TW i would definitly chose R2

RTW2 definitely. I think Rome is such a better topic to make these type of games on than ETW. It should have the same upgrades as M2TW and ETW, and it would make the game a lot better with better graphics and naval battles and a lot more organised and efficient multiplayer. I suppose if they made RTW2, then with the new engine, a lot more better mods could be made out of it.

Well it all depends on the gameplay. RTW can only really be improved in having more factions, a more detailed map and some additional handy things while ETW will have something entirely new. All i hope however is that it won't be a grindfest. Decicive battles ftw.

Rome total War 2 but with an earlier start period and a few more factions and a few more towns/regions and something done about the squalor problem
realise that there are mods out there with some or all of this but the creative assembly would have the finances/knowledge etc to do it better and without the download problems
could even do a trojan wars one too
Anything with gunpowder upwards is just boring
If at first you don't succeed destroy any evidence that you tried

"Which shall you choose Carthage peace or war"----- Fabius Maximus
"You say Fabius let rome decide"-----Carthage temple of the elders
    ................WAR.......Fabius Maximus

Not one nor the other. Because a RTW2 will be more buggy than the original RTW, and there will be a long time before all the patches can solve its issues. They should release a expansion pack for the RTW with a more improved AI, in a way that I can put my battles in auto-resolve when I want. Lets say RTW patch 2.0 coming with a new expansion, maybe one focused in the Peloponnesian Wars or in the Trajan campaigns. Also this new expansion should allow for more slots in a army, so that you have more tactical options. An improvement in the game engine should allow for more units in the battlefield, and also allow naval battles.

I agree. Guns and all that stuff... well it makes the game a lot less fun because then it's not that much about strategy, but more about how good your weapons are. And then armies can kill each other from long range without any really exciting hand to hand combat.

I can see what you're all saying with the gunpowder being boring, I admit when I think about it I don't have very high hopes for ETW...I never played STW so I don't know what it's like but I'm assuming it's the same engines and gameplay, just shogun. It sounds like it'd be a great era.

RTW2 would still make me go nuts, RTW was the first total war game I played and I knew nothing about MTW, STW or MTW2 (it was still in the works) and even then I wished there'd be a RTW2 with improved..everything. A durn shame CA won't actually get creative and do that..all it would need is more regions, factions, better diplomacy and a more exciting roman civil war..for some reason it was always easy as the two enemy factions would leave like no armies in italy so I'd sweep through quickly, combine forces and take Rome out and once you hold all of Italy you're pretty much a god. Also it could use the guilds from MTW.

It would be really cool if CA could make a historical RTW. So like you could play as each faction separately, then everything that happened to the faction in real life, would then happen in the game, and you'd just have to be that faction.
E.g. For the Romans. You'd start at like 280BC, where you have to fight Pyrrhus, then about 260BC, you'd have to fight the Punic War I, then in 218 you'd have to defend against Hannibal. Then later, you job is to destroy Carthage, and then a guy called Marius comes along and beats the Mauretanians and the Germans who were trying to invade at the time. Then around 60BC, Julius Caesar arrives and you need to conquer Gaul, then fight the civil war ... etc. Would be pretty fun eh?

    @Xavier...

What would be the point of that? If you couldn't alter anything and know exactly what will happen next, why bother playing in the first place...

Well, I reckon that if they made a historical one, it would be more interesting and fun. You might know what happens next, but you don't get the 1st hand experience just knowing about it. A game (or mod) like this would give you an idea what it was really like

Well, you have to think about this: Where in time would they place R2TW?:hmmm:
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)
