Why is this even a story? Many groups have done it by now. The Somalis did it in 1993, the Palestinians did it in 2000 and are still doing it, Africans across the continent are doing it so I am not at all surprised Al Qaeda would use children.

American Boy Scouts don't take part in any type of armed conflict. The farthest they go is target shooting. Some may go hunting, but not so sure about that.

My point is there are no Boy Scouts doing foot patrols in Mosul.

Well, on the verge of defeat the South did not use child soldiers. Now granted there were some 15-18 year olds on both sides that managed to find their way onto the battlefield. But there was never this sort of from the womb brainwashing and exploiting for military means.

I mean, in WW2 people managed to fraudulently enlist underage, but that is far different than training prepubescent boys to be terrorists.

It makes no sense to me. When a suicide bomb explodes when a child is carrying it, most of the shrapnel is flying too low for any real damage to be caused. It seems like a waste to me. Unless of course the child is tall enough.

I was a scout. The emphasis was on bushcraft, loyalty, friendship, being a team, fundraising, helping the elderly and disabled. Their motto here in Australia is "DO YOUR BEST".

No guns or bombs or religious murder involved.

I think it would be difficult to transfer scouts into killers, as most leaders are former scouts themselves who have some respect for the principles involved.

Well then you've already got the patriotism and the religious element, now all that needs to happen is a family member die or half your countrymen exploded then you'll be more than willing to make the transition.
