    Default Muay Thai

Anyone else here do it? After getting out of the army I started training again at the same gym I used to train at. The sport has gotten much bigger, it seems, during my absence.

I wish to start training semi-seriously and get back in shape. Do you guys have any good tips to share?
The common culture of a tribe is a sign of its inner cohesion. But tribes are vanishing from the modern world, as are all forms of traditional society. Customs, practices, festivals, rituals and beliefs have acquired a flut and half-hearted quality which reflects our nomadic and rootless existence, predicated as we are on the global air-waves.

If God were a man he'd be me.

At first i simply observed. But i found that without investment in others, life serves no purpose.

When living in asia did Muay Thai to supplement my TKD and Judo. Went to Bankok and and trained there for two weeks. Several things I remember:
    1) It was stinking hot.
    2) Those heavy bags hadn't been changed in years and were hardened to the quality of cement.
    3) Ice, and cold coca cola are wonderful.
    4) Move your feet.

I've been thinking of taking up jogging to bring up my stamina and over all shape, I hear its the best/only way to do it properly.

Did you train at a Muay Thai gym in BKK, capt'n? I think it would be awesome to go there for a month or two and just train till you drop.

Who are your favourite fighters? I think I'll have to go with the flow and say Buakaw. One of my favourite former champs is Jomhod, who actually coached my brother for a while at his MT gym in Helsinki. Of course, in his later year Jomhod fought mostly poor opponents, but his encounter with Buakaw is excellent watching. Jomhod, as usual, is less than humble, while Buakaw seems to have genuine respect for the champ.

    Sorry Wil, BKK=Bangkok?
If so, yes. It was an intersting time. The Thais smile a lot. Always actually, even in the ring. Nothing like fighting at Lumpini and having smiling Thais throwing plastic beer cups with ice in them at you. I could never tell what was going on.
There's a good gym in the capitol that accepts 'farang' - foreigners, but still has traditional training and low cost, but it's been over 10 years now and I can't remember the name. Chang Mai had a good gym also.
Sorry, I don't follow the circuit anymore, and don't know the current stable of fighters. Great clip though, that guy is in beautiful form. K-1 at the end there. I was devasted when I heard Andy Hug died and didn't keep up with k1 after that. Great guy, I met him in Okinawa, we had the same sponser, Kwon, though I was there for TKD at the time. Got a picture of me and Hug around somewhere, same height but he out massed me by about 50 pounds.
