Thread: The British Occupation of Ireland.

Default The British Occupation of Ireland.

Britain, to this day, occupies a large portion of Ireland through military means. Many people tend to condemn Israel for a far more necessary (survival wise) occupation of "Palestinian" lands.

What does everyone think of the forgotten occupation of the Northern Irish?

The British troops pulled out of Northern Ireland a while ago.

There is a British Garrison, in Ulster, but it now no different to any other in the UK as far as duties are concerned.

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAH

Who are you, where are you from? Are you unaware Britain has withdrawn its troops? Are you unaware Northern Ireland voted in a referedum to remain within the United Kingdom? It is Irish terrorist groups that wish to occupy a large portion of Ireland through military means, not the United Kingdom.

So if the Israelis outvote the Palestinians they get to keep the land. I think we have just solved one of the most vexing problems of our day. I have lived in Northern Ireland and there are still UK soldiers with guns within it. When Ireland as a whole votes on the occupation, then it is over. Rationalize whatever you like, but live in reality.

    Haha.

It's not a fair comparison, and it shows you know next to nothing about the situation by making it. Facts: the majority of the population of Northern Ireland wishes to remain British and Britain defends democracy. Terrorists clearly do not. The British Army's operation in Northern Ireland has ended.

The idea of Ireland as a whole voting is absurd. That's like giving Russians the vote over whether they should be able to annex eastern Europe.

As to the partition. Yes, a majority of "Northern Irish" wanted to be British. But what is Northern Irish? Descendents of Scottish and English Planters who were put there and displaced Irishmen from the North. No wonder they vote that way. I wouldn't be surprised if Britain loses it's majority of supporters from Northern Ireland in the future. She can't hold on to the North forever, and the Republic of Ireland will finaly get back the 6 counties she lost.
What are Americans if not precisely the same? You can't hold onto it foever, the native Americans will finally get back the states they lost.

Well as an Irishman I would have to say that the word entwined would be more appropriate than occupied. Funny enough I would say a lot of British not so long ago would have thought the word entangled even more appropriate.

Israel on the other hand is definitely occupying Palestinian lands but give them another 500 years and they should get to where Ireland and Britain are now.

More to the point though. Britain isn't occupying Ireland. I suggest you read up on the numerous threads about it. Northern Ireland is apart of the UK, sorry if you don't agree with it, but thats reality.

Tally-ho, chaps! Personally I like nothing better than riding through the bogs, hunting Irish peasant farmers.

Crank up the oppression wagon, what ho!

I have lived in Northern Ireland and there are still UK soldiers with guns within it.
There are British soldiers with guns in Wigan too. What's your point?

HAHA! You can't measure currency in pounds! How ridiculous!
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison
