Default Basileion Syrakosion (Kingdom of Syracuse)

By 216, Syracuse was a devastated city, that was besieged by the Romans and about to fall. But it had been great once and will deffinitely be again, under the right supervision, of course!

Not a tyrrany as before, Syracuse is now a Hellenistic Kingdom, with its King thinking that he is the best of the best, among others like Ptolemaioi or Seleukeides.

So without further ado, on to the unit list jointly develloped by me and O'ETAIPOS, presently in Athens, about to leave for his native Poland.

    A BIG THANKS ETAIPE!

    --------------------------------------

    Heavy cav.

-Somatophylakes (a skin of Hippeis Xenophontos for the Syracusian bodyguard)

    -Hipparchoi
A recruitable unit with stats like the one above. ( the winged phrygian helmet and with mail clad hands. They would be wearing a coloured linothorax over a mail overcoat)-like the statuette of Kineas found in Dodona.

    -Aspidophoroi
    (skin)

    -Longchophoroi
    (skin)

    -Hippakontistai
    (skin)

    -Tarantinoi
    (skin)

    -----------------
    -Basilikoi Hoplites
    (Makedonian allied hoplites skin)
--> Meant to be the ones favored by the King, former mercs who after been given home and a fortune, support the King or it is their head.

    -Hoplites
    (with linothorax)

    -Thureophoroi

    -Levy thureophoroi
(Natives and poor underclass of Syracuse drafted to fight)

    -Native sicelians
(Spearmen without any headgear but with a small scutum)

    -Slingers

    -Toxotai

    -Akontistai
    (Local tribes in here)

    -Galatian mercs

    -Libyan units 2-3

Do you know what other mercs that Syracuse might have used along with Celts that you know of, Keravnos?

For example, did any notable warrior type exist on Corsica, Sardinia, Malta, etc...since those islands are somewhat nearby :hmmm:

I have a comprehensive list of those mercs based on the merc units that assaulted Syracuse a century prior to RS's start. Cant't seem to find it now. Iberians were there, Libyans were there, Galatians were there, but don't remember who else. Will edit the post when I retrieve that info.

Would these be based on any current model, Keravnos? Just trying to identify some of the slot entries that will be used for swap factions. What about cavalry?

Do you want me to go through adding units from the Free Greeks to the DMB and EDU?

In answer to the above, the cav is the Syracusian cavalry - already done....and this is the full list from the Free peoples faction thread....this thread above has been superceded.

    Heavy cav.

1-Somatophylakes (a skin of Hippeis Xenophontos for the Syracusian bodyguard)
2-Hipparchoi (a skin of Thessalian cav of Macedon)
    3-Aspidophoroi
    (skin)
    4-Longchophoroi
(own skin) -merc skin of Free Greeks
    5-Hippakontistai
    (regular skin)
    6-Tarantinoi
(own skin) -merc skin of Free Greeks
    7-Hippotoxotai
    (regular skin of Nabatean HA)

    -----------------
    8-Basilikoi Hoplites -
(Makedonian allied hoplites skin) -own skin of the Free Greeks
--> Meant to be the ones favored by the King, former mercs who after been given home and a fortune, support the King or it is their head.
    9-Hoplites
(with linothorax- skin of Promachoi) -own skin (either regular or merc)
    10-Thureophoroi
    (regular skin)
11-Levy thureophoroi (to be decided) - Hypomeiones skin of Free Greeks
(Natives and poor underclass of Syracuse drafted to fight)
    12-Native sicelians
(Spearmen without any headgear but with a small scutum) - any model?
    13-Slingers
    (regular Free greeks skin)
    14-Toxotai
    (regular Free greeks toxotai)
    15-Akontistai
    (Local tribes in here)

    15+16-Galatian mercs

(something that the Massalians DON'T get)

    17+18-Iberian skin 1-2
(What Carthage has but with Syracuse skin, only recruitable in Hispania provinces)

Actually what I'll do is put a table together with it all on.

Basically, what I'm trying to do is get a 'feel' for how much grief it's going to be to swap these units around. With DMB and EDU as complicated as they are, a little planning ahead would be good so that all we have to do is swap textures into existing slots. I don't really want to have to remove 'this' and put 'that' iwhen it comes to DMB. EDU is another animal.....all of Sparta's units can just be removed, and the swap units put in their place.

Ideally...the less whacking around of the entries, the easier it will be.

As far as adding the Free Greeks....is that a different unrelated question to this? Not sure what you mean.

Basically the idea is that (hopefully) the swap factions will use pretty much mainly stuff that they have as Free Greek factions so there really is minimal changing round of stuff.

What I'm wanting to do is to get all the Free Greek units sorted so you can add the placeholders to the EDU and DMB just awaiting our skins.
