here are pictures taken in 3ds max:
this is a simple picture of the .CAS which does not distort like in-game
here is shown the area that bone_rupperarm controls with the skin modifier. this is one of the parts that distort in-game.
I even tried making the head a separate object, now instead of distorting, it gets passed to the left arm even if it is attached to bone_head.

thats what I did, and when I export the .CAS and import it at a later time, the skin modifier appears as shown in the image. With vertices deselected.
Maybe its the bones in the .CAS itself that somehow are different to the bones in other .CAS
I'll try importing the model to another .CAS and reapply the skin modifier.
