    Did you make sure that the game worked after each patch? It could be one of the patches is corrupt and that's messed up your install.

    In your shortcut properties target have you included the -show_err switch? This will display any trapped errors on exit of the program. Given that you've got the the other message this may not be of great help.

    Someone else posted a similar problem in the EB thread (I found it using the search facility in this forum);

    Hi again

    Yes, the game worked fine with each patch, after install the 1.3 Patch y played a few minutes and all is ok

    With the patch 1.5, I play...ehh minutes? hours? =P before the crash appears (and ever is in the same point! when im attacking the same enemy village, anyway, if i attack or dont attack, when finish my turn the game crashed)

    In your shortcut properties target have you included the -show_err switch? This will display any trapped errors on exit of the program. Given that you've got the the other message this may not be of great help.
    I put that, but nothing happens

    OK, next step - to try and find out what's happening. It does sound like there may be something in that settlement that's causing the problem (which is strange in a non-modded game).

    Edited the preferences.txt file (notepad will do);

    Change the following;

    FOG_OF_WAR:TRUE to FOG_OF_WAR:FALSE

    LABEL_CHARACTERS:FALSE to LABEL_CHARACTERS:TRUE

    CAMPAIGN_MAP_CAMERA:SKIP_AI_FACTIONS to CAMPAIGN_MAP_CAMERA:FOLLOW_AI_FACTIONS

    Once the changes have been made load the game and start playing. With the above settings each 'end turn' will take an eternity. You need to concentrate on what is happening with various characters on the strategy map.

    When I was doing this on a regular basis I would record the action with Fraps (you need to buy a license to record more than 30 seconds of action). After the CTD I could play the movie back to spot exactly what happened last.

    If a game always crashes after a certain amount of time that's usually an indication that the graphics card may be getting overheated. The usual advice here is to get rid of any dust there is in the case with some compressed air. You would be surprised at how much accumulates over time, but that may just be my flat.

    The -show_err switch will only display a message if the problem can be trapped within the TW exe. Typically, this will be files missing.

    What version is your game? Do you have any mods or made any modifications yourself? Any kind of details...
    The encountered a problem etc. is a general error message that you`ll always get when an aplication is terminated like that. It doesn`t say anything specific by itself.

    Since you know when and where the problem is, have you tried to auto-resolve that battle and go on? This thing is still buggy in spots, even at version 1.5.

    When you go into battle and still on the campaign map you have three buttons, fight it yourself, auto-resolve, and disengage. Do you ever pick the middle one? That is the one for the computer to fight the battle and it's called auto-resolve.

    Then if you want to continue your campaign you are stuck doing it that way because the point in the game being units, unit animation, texture, whatever is bugged and you're not going to get past that point fighting that battle manually.

    Got a couple of years to spare to go through every unit on the field to make sure all the names of all the animated parts line up with the names of the units in the export_descr_units.txt?

    There are how-tos for adding units. You can use those as a cross reference on existing units.
