    Default Seiging a city...

So in a couple of hours I'm playing a 1v1 with my friend. It's going to be an assaulting the castle and he always picks england because of it's Retinue Longbowman. Were playing with 10k money but I've tried to approach it different ways but never won. If I use seigetowers they will get burned quick because half of his army is archers. If theres any things I should do that would make me win it would be great. Should I use artillery at all or just go straight for the walls and try to surround as much as I can and attack from all sides and eventually making my way to the town square.

I would say use artilerry to blow a hole through the wall whil the rest of your army is out of range. Once you blow a hole the wall rush it.

If he's anything like the computer (I'd hope not), get 2-4 catapults, and punch hole after hole into the front walls. If he's dumb enough to leave his archers on the walls, they've be devastated once the walls start to tumble.

Also you could try going all infantry with alot of ladders. Spread out and take 2-3 sides of the castle. Once your up on the walls your infantry will wipe out his bownmen. And you can probably reach the walls without to much loss, and out number him. Also by taking two sides of the castle it'll force him to either thin out his own troops or be attacked from boths sides.

In my oppinion calvary of any kind are gonna be wasted on your side, probably cost too much and as I said before you're better off out number him. Two weaker units flanking a twice as strong unit will always win.

curious what faction do you usually pick?

When I played him I was playin the Turks but this time I'm going with sicily because from what I saw they have the heaviest armored troops and once my men are on the walls I'm making a rush for the towers that control the gate to let some cavalry and more footsoldiers in and I'll go to the town center.

Try the Moors, and go all out with the D. Christian Guard. Ladder rush multiple walls with your heavy infantry to stop the archers from firing, then knock down a section of the wall to give access to your cavalry, as well as more infantry.

Do not bother with missile troops or light cavalry, you need to get up close as soon as possible and stop those longbowmen from firing.
    I love you all!

Yea the problem was that the retinue bowman are so strong that once I start engaging his troops through the walls my men are ripped to pieces by the arrows.

If you have enough ladders, you should be able to fight most of his longbowmen in a melee once you get on the walls. D Christian Guard will clean up against them.

Trebuchets, get a few of them and have them focus fire on every section of the wall you can, you should be able to kill a good chunk of archers this way if he doesn't move them off fast enough and make the wall useless for defense. Support them with heavy cavalry and heavy infantry. Have your cavalry rush his archers which will be forced to leave walls or die under a hail of treb fire, if he has spears let heavy infantry deal with them.

I always prefer ladders to towers as troops can run with them and they get up onto the walls faster (there's only one ladder inside a tower). Ladders also can't catch fire.

Yup, ladders are better than towers in my opinion.. Towers just get burned. Today i noticed that i could make my troops run with the ladders but they didnt seem to run any faster? Is the problem in me or are they just walking normally?

On a side note, have you others seen those natives using jaguars/their counterparts in Americas campaign? Their speed is mad, they reach the walls in seconds!

They can run with ladders and they will also go faster (from my personal experience).

    hey will also go faster
yep, they will go a lot faster.

Anyway I would recommend mass ladder charge as well. It will allow you to take some sections of the walls and engage longbowmen face to face so they won't be able to fire.
