    Default Lithuania early campaign.

I started, and early Lithuania campaign, and so far it's going well. I'm allied with Poland, and we are both fighting against the Rebublic of Novogrod, and Kievan Run who are both allied together. Thus far it's been a long bloody war!

What I'm wondering is, will the Teutonic Order emerge at sometime in the early campaign? I knoticed that Konigsburg isn't there located by Rita like in the late campaign. By starting an early campaign, have I missed out on fighting the Teutonic Order, or will be eventually show up to kill my Pagan nation?

    Thanks.

They will show up, but they will go for Kiev.

    A few advices for mid-game:

    - convert everything to cities and build right temples in those.
    - use your uber-elite units to take Novgorod and half of Scandinavia.
    - when there's a crusade called on you, let them take the city, don't defend it, and attack them the next turn when they are still inside. Thanks to that crusade ends and other armies are going back home.

Also, this way instead of going Abysmal with everybody on the map (for attacking a crusading army), you're going to be Abysmal relations only with the faction that took the city (for killing their army which wasn't crusading anymore).

Does an army just appear out of nowhere?

    y2day: Yeah, I know that.

    Phase:
A few stacks (but nothing like Mongols) appear somewhere in Warmia and wander around the map stupidly for a while after they pick a target.

They take Kiev most of the time. Only once they sacked Budapest and settled down in Vienna. I think I saw them in Riga too.

That's just giving in to Christianity though! I always defend my walls to the last man, like a good Pagan or Muslim.. or ex-com Christian

You'll be a dead Pagan if you use that tactic without a few strong armies at hand

You will be bankrupt after 15 turns and they will keep coming. :-)

You just have to kill of the Generals leading the armies to end the Crusade. And provided you don't ignore the Crusade announcement you can prepare a nice force to defend the walls with. I held a Castle for 40+ turns as the Moors in Vanilla without too much trouble.

So when you add in things like.. rushing with light cavalry to make them drop ladders/siege towers and boiling oil over the gate, it makes it quite easy to defend against an assault. Siege weapons are a small issue, but again, the AI is dumb enough to send them ahead of the main force so you can usually take them out with cavalry.

I remember my first campaign as the Byz. I attacked a crusading stack of the HRE on the way to the holy lands just because i was at war with them. Big mistake, alliances where broken and lets just say the next 100 years wasn't very pleasent. lol

In my Lithuania game I had every single catholic factions join the stabbing. Some with more than one army. I fought them for like 50 turns or even more. I got bankrupt and frustrated... and reloaded the save game, let them get the city the third turn of the crusade, retook it on the fourth, by 10th had peace with all participating factions, by 50th conquered all of Scandinavia and Poland with armies I would waste on fighting of crusaders. I liked the second scenario more. :-)

Not really an issue if you're the Moors.. everyone hates you anyways and you start out at war with the whole of Europe, in vanilla anyways.

Wish there was more logic to Crusades and Jihads though, shouldn't be so many crusades against ex-communicated factions and there shouldn't be Jihads deep into Christian territory. I once had a Jihad called against London, no armies ever made it to my shores and it failed because the three generals involved all died of old age

EDIT: Speaking of Lithuania are they receiving a boost in 6.0 late era campaign? As the Teutonic Order I wiped them out in like six turns, which wasn't really the epic battle between the Order and the hordes of Pagan heretics that I was expecting.

I don't know how it happens but when there's a crusade called on Egypt or Moors or Seljuks, they get two crusades or four. Lithuania always gets ******* everybody join the action. This is fun on tactical map but also torment on strategic map. :-)

Thanks for the advice, will try it out. When does the option come to convert to Christianity? Or is that not available in this MOD?

There's no such option. It will be included in 6.0.

For now you're pagan and will stay this way.
Also, it's nice to install Echad's pack, it contains my temple fix allowing pagan temples to have religion conversion bonus. This way you don't need a priest in each of your provinces. Saves a lot of cash and a lot of time.

Cool, I'll have to look for that in 6.0 when it comes out.

Thanks for pointing that out to me, that pack that Echad released is pretty nice. I got it installed last night, and your temple fix is great! I was having to do just like you said, have a Priest in each province, now with that fix, I have more cash to kill my enemies with!

On a side note, I finally got a warning event that the Teutonic Order had been formed, and that Lithuania would be the first to feel it's sting. What's interesting is that after that message came, the Rebublic of Novogrod asked for a ceasefire, after we'd been warring for twenty years now. I really hadn't made that much of an advance in the war, it was more of a stalemate, I'd only captured Novogrod, Minsk, and Smolensk, and my relations with them were abysmal because I'd been killing off all their soldiers I captured, I did however manage to kill two of their Kings in battle, but they still asked for peace. I'm guessing the Teutonic Order must be a pretty big threat, and they don't want to be involved in a war with Lithuania, and the Teutonic Order.

Also Kievan Rus decided to become a vassal of Poland, and due to my alliance with Poland I was forced into a ceasefire with Kievan Rus as well. However things are going to change with the Teutonic Order coming, and my relations with other European Kingdoms has been dropping down to poor, or lower. I have a feeling I'm going to be fighting a massive war here shortly on several fronts.

I doubt i will be converting to Christianity even if it's available. There's so much fun being the only pagan out there. :-)

Such a shame that your fun will be broke with the inclusion of Cumans, and currently lasts only before the Mongol Invasion.

I can't stand the guys, who pray to pieces of wood. =\
