    Default Some strategy tips appreciated

    Hi!

Just put up Alex.exe with RTRPE 1.9 and 4tpy.

I have a few questions regarding crucial things in game:

1.Do other culture buildings keep their culture differences effect when a bigger building of my own culture is 'built-over' it?

2.Which buildings can I 'build over'? I heard I can do it with some temples, I guess the greek ones (if Im playing Roman) should all be the case, is it?

3.Any other good tip or link to guide/info you can advise?

    Thanks a lot
    This game is great!

If you mean shrines, then no. Once you turn a foreign shrine into your temple it becomes your temple.

You can 'upgrade' all the buildings(well the majority of them) If another faction builds the first level Market and you take the city, you won't need to build it. You simply build the next level if/when it's available.

The exceptions are those faction specific buildings (i.e. the Carthaginian Execution Square)

3.Any other good tip or link to guide/info you can advise?
You'd have to be more specific.

Cool, so only temples provide cultural difference?
Should I perhaps destroy them until the level I can build my own over them?
Are all of the temples really upgradeable? Carthaginian and others too?

No. There are other buildings that give cultural influence: citizenship buildings; arenas; theatres; taverns(barbarian); execution square(carthage)...and others, when you access a city to see what's in it right click on the building and it'll tell you exactly what it does to your city.

Should I perhaps destroy them until the level I can build my own over them?
No. They usually give public order bonuses also, if you destroy them you'll have to compensate for the loss of public order with garrison forces. If the city is of a different culture you may not be able to stop it from revolting(even with a full garrison) if you destroy those buildings. Do not destroy anything(that gives public order bonuses) until it can be immediately replaced.

Edit: this includes cultural influence also! although there may be some conflict in the beginning if you, for example, build an arena which gives a bonus to your cultural influence and the ratio between your culture and the other becomes 45%/yours:50%/theirs; you may think it's a good idea to destroy (x) building to reduce their influence another 10% making the ratio 45%/yours:40%/theirs...DON'T DO IT!

    It's a bad idea.

You want to build a cushion of your culture before you start destroying another cultures buildings. There's a...rough transition during cultural changes...there may be some rioting and other disturbances...this will happen anyway, you don't want to exacerbate the problem by destroying buildings too quickly

Are all of the temples really upgradeable? Carthaginian and others too?
IIRC*...Rome should only be able to build one temple beyond the 2nd stage. Temples are not upgradeable. Shrines are. You can upgrade any shrine to a temple, but it stops there.

That's not really a bad thing. Remember priests/etc are granted by temples not shrines, so it may be wise to keep foreign temples because you'd still get the benifits from them. The foreign cultural influence they give can be countered by building more of the other buildings I mentioned earlier.

*You may want to double check on this point, I may be giving you advice that's specific to the mod Imp II and not applicable to plain RTRPE...so double check that info before you use it. Everything else is correct, I'm just not 100% sure whether you can upgrade "Temples" in RTRPE or not.

So I guess I should destroy temples if they cause more unrest than their order bonus is and build my own instead.
Of course, I'm never rushing to destroy everything, but there are some cities that are revolting no matter how big the garrison is. One good example is the city in the center of Sicily - for some 5 turns after capture it keeps rioting at 1/2 full garrison plus a decent governor (5+ influence).

...I have so much fun with Olbia. There's a large contingent of Sarmatians that made that part of the island their home that might be the problem.

5+......you need 7-10 for that place.

Here's my advice...leave it. Take everyone out and let it go into Senatorial Revolt. Let them deal with it until they've built a Governors Villa, etc. Then go take it.

    Or...

Recruit you some peltasts/skirmishers/whatever, take them and disband them in the province immediately boosting the population to over 2K, use your 5+ governor to sit in the city with the remaining peltast/skirmishers/whatever(if any are left) until the Villa is built...problem solved. After you get the villa built the city should calm down.

FYI:if you didn't know...you can recruit Sarmatian Heavy Cavalry from that city(Olbia)...they're probably some of the better cavalry available to the Roman player.
