Default sins of a solar empire

game comes out soon. Apparently not in UK till summer due to publishing issues Guess ill have to import cos i cant wait that long.

i played beta 3 for a while - its great fun. Anyone else looking forward to it? (dont attack me if there's a thread on this somewhere, i used search and couldnt find anything).

i made a vid of the end of one of the epic battles i had (it was truely epic)

screenshots first to give u ide of the scale:

2 of the other enemy teams come in to back their ally up: http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/648...ssualt2cj1.jpg

during the battle an overall look at the enemy forces arrayed against me (much of the enemy forces had been destroyed by this time): http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/865...ltgroupen0.jpg

That title is like my bat signal. I've been hyping up this game in every forum I can.

I've been in the beta since beta 2, current beta (released in early november) is beta 4, and the whole shebang comes out in less that a week.

I'm going to skip in the in-depth synopsis that I usually do and just sum it up with: Awesome.

They are having distributer problems outside of North America though, yes. If I were you, I would buy it over Stardock (or totalgaming or whatever they call it), and just download it from them on release day. It beats ordering from a North American retailer and waiting for it to be shipped. You also have the option of having Stardock ship you a boxed copy, while playing the copy you downloaded in the meantime.

I mean how its going to perform on my rig. It looks very good but I think my rig might not take the strain.

Meh about a year old. Its a toshiba laptop. Qosmio G35-AV660 to be precise. I would love to build my own from scratch, but I'm not a tech savvy kind of guy and I'm in college where most of my time is spent with my nose in between books, so my time and money is limited.

I just looked up the specs for your laptop, and it should be fine. You have a core 2 2Ghz, sins only needs a single core 1.8Ghz chip (and the game will take advantage of 2 cores). You have 2Gigs of ram, you only need 512Megs. You have a 7600Go with 256 megs dedicated memory, while the game only needs a 128 meg 6600.

If those specs on your laptop are right (killer laptop by the way), then you would be fine.

My 3 year old rig can run CoD and WiC on high, I'd think your year old laptop could.

From what I understand it's less micro-management based and more tactical combat in real-time based. I think there are three resources that you have to collect, though (money from planets, metal and crystal from asteroids?)

yea theres money from trade and taxes from planets etc, metal and crystal from asteroids.

it is kind of like galactic civs but theres gravity wells around plannets where most of the combat usually takes place rather than a completely free-roaming kind of map like galcivs. Its also real timerather than turn based.

Stardock helped them work on it, so you can expect some non-lazy programming so it runs fast.

There is a place for real time and a place for turn based.

It would be nicer tho, imo, to have turn based turns and real time battles. But this game doesn't have the focus on its campaign map its about the battles.
