Default DLV better Than TLR? Please explain. Trying to decide which to play

    Hey guys,

I have been playing this game forever.. but I have not used DLV. I just wanted to know what makes this mod better then TLR. TLR is my fav mod, but I was thinking of trying something else.... please tell me what this is better.

    Please, and thank you.

DLV is the best mod around. Period. I have played them all. A lot. DLV has good balance and can be challenging also beyond the first 50 turns. The only thing that is a bit annoying is that some of the messages repeat themselves a bit too much (too unstable markets - hyperventilating up or down and also the new events are too often -too many hunts, almost every round).

Apart from those two minor complaints I have no other, the rest is praise.

DLV is still being developed and added to constantly - TLR is not.
Many of us here are former patrons of the TLR and moved over when it began to die. The role playing elements in DLV are second to none - it combines the slow and steady approach that was so fun in TLR but adds MORE to the experience with regards to traits, events, role playing elements and other items that really make you care about yoru family members - including the really dim witted ones who stand to become great men if you can only groom them right.
The interaction between the factions is superb, the AI is pretty smart, theres lots of factions with their own unique unit roster, stengths and weaknesses. theres also lots of new units, new strat map models, new unit skins, new unit cards. In general - DLV has reinvented MTW2 as the game it SHOULD have been when it was released!

TLR still had several unique elements that I would like to see added to DLV one day. I used to play both TLR and DLV back when TLR 2.0 came out, and back then it was looking like TLR was on its way to being the better mod...then it died. DLV has been continually improved beyond my wildest expectations, and utilizes the new kingdoms features magnificently.

Some classic TLR elements that DLV could borrow, though:

    - The era-based unit recruitment: it kept you from mowing down the AI's spearmen with arquebusiers 150 turns in.
    - The severe economic effects of alliances/trade agreements made you manage your diplomacy-even trade agreements-carefully
    - A separate "Leader" career path for the faction leader that reflected how good of a leader he is (instead of a DLV king you just keep at your capital for the +1 authority boost)
    - A more nuanced education system, including an optional "Clergy" career path.
    - Up-front scripted economic costs that makes settlements useless once you capture them (symbolic of setting up your gov't).

Some of these ideas were implemented, some only semi-developed, but they show some sparks of innovation over a lot of other mods.

The era-based unit recruitment: now that is Key.

I still think I will go ahead and try DLV. I love the fact that there are more factions.

Hopefully sooner then later the era-based unit recruitment system will be factored in.

anyways, thank you everybody for your opinions. It has helped me to decide to play the mod.

    Thank you,

Era recruitment would be a nice touch but coudl also get quite fustrating.
I do like some of the other elements mentioned though - especially the additional career paths! I think that woudl add a lot to the mod!

I think this look nice, i was looking at TLR and saw that. Maybe can somebody add this as a minimod? Doesn't anybody know the guy who worked on it ad TLR?

Ad this moment DVL is the best mod ever!

I recomend you all try Maquiavello 5,0 mod it seems to have what you are looking for in both DVL and TLR, 31 factions, cool map (over 400 settlements using som modded forts) AOR, cool triggers and acciliaries ( for example if venice conquers the specific balcan territories it gets the re di serbia acciliary for a general, there are also many others) and also the start date is 1416 so cooler units.

Its a decent option while we wait for a DLV with an AOR.

    cheers
