    Default Opinions on Noam Chomsky

Chomsky is not a favorite of mine. As he is consistently cited in Israel Palestinian debates, I think it would be a good idea to talk about him a bit. He is beyond liberal in a way most liberals find terrifyingly stupid and a general laughingstock outside of a few British and American universities and one or two coffee houses in New York City. When he was younger he did have some moments, but has been unable to move beyond 1986 as a person.

Even the Arabs, who many in west believe Chomsky supports, think he is an idiot these days. From the bestselling Arabic international newspaper. Enjoy.
Having vilified George W Bush as the arch-villain of the modern world, Chomsky ends up by adopting W's analysis almost word by word.
Anyone else have some choice Chomskyisms they would like to mock?
For people who like Chomsky, feel free to defend him.

His understanding of economics is insulting. He has a brilliant knowledge of history and foreign policy, but his views on what is actually happening is bizarre.

I find him quite honest and therefore he has my respect .
I have only 2 books from him but I find it refreshing when not all the press sings in one voice .Even if he made some mistakes .

Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

I think he is brilliant but he is more like a crazy genius then a somewhat-normal genius. I do not know much about him but some of his views are strange and he has been cited by many as a self-hating Jew. In the past 20 years people around the world have given him a bad reputation so it might distort my view of him.

I wouldn't know a whole lot about the man, but a friend was doing his thesis, and as a part of it, he contacted Chomsky with some questions and such, and Chomsky wrote back with a detailed reply.

Which was rather nice of him to do, he had no reason or need to do it, and I imagine he is a busy man.

I have many friends who went to MIT. Chomsky is not very busy.

I do not really understand his political ideas. I guess he tries not to separate his reflections as a scientist from those of his political being and that is fair. I guess also he tries to provoke discussions and not to present the solutions to problems which are endlessly complicate, which is fair, too. Finally, to be a scientist does not make you a smart ass in all respect. I suppose, he knows such either.

Apparently I'm reliably informed (by beyond wiki) that Chomsky is an anarchist. He is a member of the IWW (as am i) for example.

As Chomsky would say, you provide no substantial statements.

Even the Arabs, who many in west believe Chomsky supports, think he is an idiot these days. From the bestselling Arabic international newspaper. Enjoy.
Ah, I see. So a newspaper review = the Arab population. I see.

Your attack on him does not merit refutation, mostly for the lack of any substantial statement.

In my opinion, Noam Chomsky is probably one of the foremost intellectuals today.

I follow a lot of what Chomsky has to say - mostly because I too count myself as a Libertarian Socialist. I'm perhaps not quite as left wing with regards his economic ideas, but I fully agree with his social and political ideas. Whatever view you hold on the guy, it is impossible to deny his intelligence - and the scope of his knowledge.

Ultimately, I agree most with his concept of authority: That it should be justified, and representative of the people it onstensibly leads. And ultimately entirely democratic.

Funnily enough, the first I ever heard of him was through his linguistics work which I covered for my English A-level a few years back...

    He's a total idiot.

I have absolutely no respect for anyone who actually attended the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, in southern Brazil.
