    Default where is the parthenon?!?

    so i finally managed to take athens from the macedonians - and was quite annoyed to find that it had a large temple to hermes in it -

    at first i thought it must be the work of those pesky macedonians - but then i loaded up a game as the greek cities just to check and was surprised to find that athens begins the game with a temple to hermes -

    so isnt this inaccurate??

    i mean - every student of the classics has just GOT to know that a pretty 'awesome' temple to athena was built on the acropolis in the mid-5th century BC...

    Yes, idealy... However, if you want to give them an awesome temple you`d need to make the settlement to be a large city(as opposed to just city as it is now). Which means you need to give it a minimum of 12 000 population. And a proconsuls_palace (that needs a forum to exist). And you might also need to up a bit the other buildings because of the new size of the settlement. It can all be done, but it needs a bit of care so as to have some balance in the region.

    Too bad you can't have a few custom cities or something.

    well at least could they be given a large temple of athena then - then i guess its up to the greeks to build it up later on -

    RTR 6 won`t be developed further. This discussion is based on it, not on the upcoming RTR VII(that`s gonna be very different). You are of course free to change it in your game. It`s pretty simple.

    Go to Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign
    open the file descr_strat(use notepad for example) and do a search for region Attica. You`ll find this entry:
    Code:
    settlement
    {
    	level city
    	region Attica

    	year_founded 0
    	population 6000
    	plan_set default_set
    	faction_creator greek_cities
    	building
    	{
    		type core_building governors_palace
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type defenses stone_wall
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type academic academy
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type hinterland_farms farms+1
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type port_buildings port
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type barracks_greek_cities militia_barracks
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type missiles practice_field
    	}
            building
    	{
    		type temple_of_trade temple_of_trade_large_temple
    	}
    	building
    	{
    		type hinterland_town_square town_square
    	}
    }
    You need to change that red part with:
    Code:
    temple_of_law temple_of_law_large_temple
    Be careful not to delete or change anything else. After you do this, save the file and exit. Before starting the game delete the map.rwm files again to be sure the changes take effect and there won`t be any conflicts.
    Note: you shouldn`t do this for an ongoing campaign. I don`t think it`s saved game compatible. And before editing the file make a backup of it so you can revert the changes if you need to.

    thanks florin - i noticed that sparta starts out with an awesome temple to nike with a governor's palace as well, so i just did an awesome temple to athena and downgraded the spartan one to large - dont think there is much archaeological evidence for any awesome temple in sparta at this period -

    how could i add a minor shrine to nike? thats to represent the little temple of nike in front of the parthenon -

    i assume i would add something like temple of horse shrine - but would the command be temple_of_horse_shrine or minor_shrine?

    im not too concerned about game balance - would rather have towns that are more in sync with the archaeology of these towns - (so i also transferred the odeon in sparta to athens to represent the odeon of pericles)

    I havent looked. Does Athens have an acropolis and such? Does Corinth have the Acro-Corinthos? I run RTRE.

    Yes, and if you choose to see Athens on the battle map while in campaign you`ll be able to see Diogene in his barrel if you zoom in really close.

    although that would be extremely unrealistic to see him walking around in the third century BC

    Why, do you think Diogene of Sinope was the only philosopher of the Cynic school? There may very well have been one Diogenes in Athens in the 3rd century BC.

    i thought that was just a joke - so can you really see diogenes in his barrel if you look at athens on the battle map?

    No, man, it was a joke, of course!

    That would have been a nice nod to history though.

    Indeed, but quite impossible technically. As far as I know, people inside a city are those listed in the EDU - so, in order to make Diogenes roam the place, we'd need to abandon one unit from the battlefield. What's more, we'd see in ALL Greek culture cities a horde of Diogenes-es. I might be wrong about the technical details, though...

    No, you`re wrong. It actually can be done. The people you see on the city view map are set in descr_lbc_db. And there you put the entry title of DMB, not EDU. So you don`t need to have them in game as a unit. It would take a DMB slot though. Anyway, I hope this won`t get people to request historical personalities on the city map.

    Lol, imagine the easter egg that could be Chuck Norris walking the streets of Rome

    Corinth had a larger parthenon than Athens but few know it. This parthenon worked something like protection and it was built on top of a very big mountain with the rest of the city below it. Just saying it
