New Rambo out sometime this year. Looks to be more plausible than the others plot-wise, though still with 25,000 people ending up dead.

AMEN. First Blood is a movie of worth. The shoot ups after must be taken into account because of First Blood.

I saw Rambo IV - the movie is so freaking sweet!

I was scared going into this movie because a lot of the "professional reviewers" complained about a lack of action or a dreary setup leading to the third act. I was just curious: did these reviewers watch the same movie I did? There was never a dull moment in the movie, and there was plenty of action sprinkled throughout the movie (leading to Rambo kicking everyone's ass at the end). It's a Rambo-type action movie, and on that level, it doesn't disappoint at all.

Watched this film on friday. Not nearly as bad as I expected.

    Spoiler alert

Negatives were the unnecessarily detailed scenes of violence, when I am watching a cheesy action film I do not want to see children killed and bayoneted or gang rapes. It this was an attempt at social realism, it was an utter disaster, I am watching Rambo, I don't need the whole war is hell, realism attempt. Another minus was the flaw in the narrative when the mercenaries were captured. Why, how and when were they captured, and why were they apparently captured without a fight, it made no sense whatsoever. The last battle scene, though generally well made, was also somewhat confusing. Especially when the rebels moved in, at this time it became difficult to follow who was firing at who, who the bad guys were and so on.

Interestingly, the film was a sort of syncretism between the old 80's one steroid man beats the crap out of the military of a smaller dictatorship and the more realistic (though far from reality) modern action flick. Rambo was unexpectedly not fighting alone, and the people he was fighting with, though not nearly as good as Achilles reincarnated (Rambo himself) quite competent warriors. I guess the unnecessarily graphic violence scenes were parts of this as well.

The movie was clearly an attempt at getting 12-18year old kids to watch in awe of Rambos super toughness. I am to old for that but I have to admit enjoying myself. The ubercheesy super 1980's poetic justice disembowelment of the evil Burmese commander was hilarious. It can be watched for comedy value.

All in all, a cheesy, cliche of a film, completely lacking in intelligence and without a good or convincing story. However, for the most part, the film didn't attempt to be anything but a brainless entertainment film, and it was quite well made for the genre. If one is after brainless entertainment and can stand the grafic scenes, its a good entertainment film, nothing more and nothing less, I suppose that was its purpose.

Given the high level of violence and naturally high ratings pretty much everywhere this movie can hardly be considered as aimed at 12year olds. The key demographic for such movies are rather young males, anything from late teens to late twenties.

Meh, I only liked the very first one, where he's killing those $hit-kicker policemen that pushed him too far. Cant really picture Johny coming back to kill Murmese militants 1/3 his age.

    Rambo rocks the house.
That's why the world is in a poo state - because don't have any more 80's action heroes to pull us out of the crapper.
The Ram saw how retarded the new millenium is and brought some classic 80's whuppass back, just to show us how useless all the new 'action' stars are these days..

What? No I did not expect Shakespearian dialogue. That was not what I pointed to as a bad aspect of the film. Further I didn't write that it was a bad film either. Reread my post for reference. As for Rapax statement regarding tits audience he is correct, but I believe these films are mostly viewed by people below that age as well, (if not foremost) especially when it is released on DVD.

Actually, a lot of the Rambo franchise' fanbase are those who saw the 80's films when they were young, and are now in their late 20's, 30's and 40's.

    The same old Rambo-killing-an-entire-army-by-himself movie.

Nevertheless, the movie experience was great.
