Reiki WTF!?

I didnt know if to putt this in the athenaeum or here but whatever.

Aniway, severall weakes ago my mom started practising Reiki.
Its basically a method to channel energy through your hands to heal people (healing by touching).
Ofcourse I had no choice but to volantier as her guiny pig.
I didnt seriously believe it, my mom putts her hands on my head for 10 minutes, what could go wrong?
Well, first of: By the 3'd time half of my body went numb.
But my mom cept using reiki to try and lift the numbnes, and so she did, after about a weak.
After severall atempts we had a result, the numbness was regresing, but!
I felt a curtain lighteness in my head. That night I could not move, my head was spining like mad and I was vomiting all over the place.
After half a day of intensive "touching", the vomiting stopped, but I still get duisy from time to time.

Now, could some of you people explain what just happened?

Aniway, my first expirience with reiki was preaty reall, half of your body geting numb for a weak is practically unexplainable. All my parents (enclueding my mom) are doctors, they should know.

Also, when I first descovere the numbnes and the histeria began, my mom thaught it was nerve alcheimer or somethig (all I know is you die ftom it), she took me to her gooroo. And I can onely say one thing about that person: Either she really can chanel energy through her hands or she has a couple of ovens installed in there.

Odds are in favour of your mind doing tricks to you. Placebo effect. You subconciously kind of think "might this work" and stuff like that.

Heat etc can be explained by your brain making you imagine stuff. Thanks to it's ability to control all your sensations and reactions fooling your head can make you feel great many things.

Either way, I would recommend you to stop being guinea pig.

If your mother is a doctor then she probably gave you C. difficile or something similar, tell her to wash her hands properly after she's done with a patient.

Shes an ancologist (cancer doctor) so no danger of infection.

I've had a Reiki massage and it is a wicked experience. A relaxed, light headed feeling lasted several days. I don't think there is anything spiritual about it, it's just a really exotic, effective massage.

Its not really a massage sins they dont move their hands. (or legs, if its "deep touching, whatever that means)

She still works in a hospital, she can catch something by shaking hands with another doctor or simply touching the doorknob to the bathroom. Some bugs can be quite resistant. I'm more inclined to believe that she inadvertently gave you a bug than made you sick by practicing voodoo magic.

The placebo effect makes no sense if you were expecting to get healed, you would have healed not gotten sick. Getting sick when you expect to heal defies the whole point of the placebo effect.

You are atheist does not mean your subconcious cannot believe in all this stuff. Atheism and sceptism are not same thing. And even if you are intellectually sceptic, your subconcious might not be.

Either that or she brought you "gift" from hospital.

Until reiki is proven under scientific examination it's about as credible as breatharianism.

What "energy" is she channeling? Can she transmit microwaves through her fingers?

My cousin actually takes reiki pretty seriously, he thinks it healed him after he almost was killed in a car crash. Now, if it is a placebo or not, I could care less. But I doubt it's "real" as in something supernatural. I don't know the specifics of it though.

It is not magic actually, in Physics, Reiki should explain as "energy". We produce energy anytime, and some people produce more, some produce less. If a person can control the energy he/she release, it is very possible to train the use of "ki" for different purpose, such as Chinese martial art or medical skill (well, it was started by Chinese).

However, I highly discourage common people trying it, since unprofessional people may not be able to control their energy release, thouse hurt the patient.

The reason why I dont think its a bug is, the simptoms didnt match anything both in the first and second case.
Also my head starts to spin onely after these "sessions" while Im fine during the day, so the horible spining during that night was probably an amplified version of that effect.

I don't believe in magic, unless I see it with my own eyes.

1st of all, she's a doctor you blubering idiots, so she knows a tad bit more biology then you do. Btw, she's also one of, if not the most inteligent person I know (you are in that groop).
I posted here for explanations, not to get insulted.

PS: It wasnt parkinsons..... I cant remember the name, but the symptoms were very similar, except for the wierd way the numbness spread.

The thing with the warmth is, my mother doesnt have it. When she practiced reiki on me her hands were cold. But her gooroo really has ovens for arms, at first its like any other hand (kold) but after a dozen seconds it really gets hot, not warm, hot. Like in a sauna.
Also note that I didnt know anything about the warmth untill I actually felt it, so I doubt its a psychology thing.
And your posts still dont (try to) explain the hellish duisines I get after 10 minutes of reiki to the head.

But the thing that cept me an atheist was that I didnt fill the unexplainable gaps with "god".

but as you can see there are things that move beyond your perception, yet can affect you--- this would lend credence to the idea of god unseen, unknowable, yet fully affecting every part of your being and life.

very interesting experience though, especially because of your atheist background; I dont think your the type to just say something like this because it reinforces your beliefs--because clearly it doesnt.
