What did I do wrong?

on about turn 50, i was playing as england and doing just fine. suddenly, in about the space of 4 turns, France, HRE, Venice, Milan, Scotland, Denmark, and Portugal all attacked me

. I am in no shape to take on a 8 front war, and have had to resort to cheating so i can train troops(i dont do so well on defensive sieges

)
is there any way i can stop this without hordes of diplomats or expensive armies? my only allies are Russia, Egypt,(from the crusade to Baghdad, which i won) and The BE, and they are all weak, so i have no support.

Welcome to the forums and my tips are to let go of the provinces which suck and reinforce the stronger ones, and assassinate. Worked for me.

Yes rather than cheat just cut your losses and pull your good units back to important cities/castles. Keep some men in the others just to slow down the enemies and continue to get their income until the last minute. After which do what damage control you can with cease fires until you can rebuild your armies and take them back one by one. Mercenaries can be your last true friends in these types of moments....

Sad to say but some times you have to take "collateral damage" for the good of your empire. Don't be upset in time you will take your lands back and much more if you plan correctly...

Minimizing your fronts is always something to consider when expanding. As other have stated, pull back. Even if you know you can't win a battle, try and kill as many enemy as you can. If you can cripple an army you can slow it down or stop it altogether. The AI won't invade England, so you can retreat and recover safely. Re coop and then take out Scotland. Once you control the British Isles build up a stack or two and head back to Europe to take back which was once yours.

Since when does the AI not attack the British Isles? I've had Portuguese armies landing every other turn.

Yep, I've seen that as well. In my English Campaign, they snatched Dublin from me. Were my allies though so they did not attack so far.

All I can suggest is you try an AI mod, or a full mod that has AI improvements implemented. You will still have wars, but they will be more realistic and less backstabbing.

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that maybe you haven't patched the game? All my campaigns seemed to end up like this - almost all my allies attacked within a few turns - until I patched. Now it's much more comfortable. Seems Milan is always going to be a treacherous horde of swamp snakes, but they're not as stupid as they were unpatched... they managed to wait 40 turns before attacking me in my latest Venice campaign.

yeah. i havent patched. i had to start all over(new OS, everything, cuz of a major loss of data.)
i've started building up my assassins, and that seems to be working, but now egypt is at war with me,( due to another crusade) but scotland was taken care of by my prince.
the sad thing is, my only worthwile diplomat died of old age, so i dont really have a hope of cease fires.
i have managed to cut back on cheating drastically. ive also started a major campaign against france(down to marseille/zaragoza) and milan. they should be out of it for a while now. the only thing really holding me back are seiges at vienna from venice, and Antwerp from denmark.
any more suggestions after my update? thanks for welcoming me so graciously.

also, do you have any suggestions for patches or mods that would help make a more balanced game? sorry for the double post, i dont really retain the knowledge of editing at 12 in the morning
