    Icon9 Trading charts and trading ships causes computer to run slowly

    I recently discovered that playing a colonial trading empire is much more effective than an continental one. As a result in all my RTR PE games I conquer alot of ports that brings me considerable funds, and also by holding colonies all over the map, my armies get to stay in contact(war) with most of the superpowers (Romans, Macs) and that provides a very fun game for me, lots of epic battles with little worry of money.

    Anyway the problem is that with all that trading going on on the campaign map a lot of trading ships and carts show up and as the empire grows my computer reaches the point in which I can no longer play the game on the campaign map(and that hapens just when things get exciting ). Is there any way of graphically remove them from the campaign map or at least trim them down so they would be rendered easier.

    Please note that I have already looked up all the tutorials on how to run RTR smoother, I tried them all and they did wonders for RTR 6.2(close proceses, minimum resolution etc) but it seems for Platinum and my new style of play they are not enough, so any advice regarding improving computer performances would be futile, my last chance to play my favorite game is either get a better computer (I'd rather not do that) or just removing the trading animation. Can anyone help me on this ?

    Play with a lower resolution?

    What are the specs of your PC and what settings do you play?

    Do you have the 'follow_ai_factions' set to true.

    Do you play with FOW turned off - so you can see the whole map?

    resolution doesn't matter in most of time. The main thing that slows down campaign graphics is "follow ai movements", try to turn it off (but it's also dangerous )

    The OP hasn't come back but the preferences.txt looks like;

    CAMPAIGN_MAP_CAMERA:SKIP_AI_FACTIONS

    and not

    CAMPAIGN_MAP_CAMERA:FOLLOW_AI_FACTIONS

    Pity this thread is dead. I bet not everyone have neat supercomputers to play RTW with. I really hope someone could come up with a suggestion how, if possible, can those trade wagons be removed.

    The trade wagons and trade ships do not appear on the map IF you play on small unit size(from the options menu-> video options-> advanced options iirc). They only appear for unit size normal and up. So if you have a poor PC I wonder why you haven`t figured this out already? What were you doing playing on above small?
