    Default Greatest Novel Ever

What, in your opinion, is the greatest novel of all time?

I know its terribly cliche, but I am going to have to say War And Peace. The work is in many ways much more than a novel as it incorperates elements of history and philosophy, and no novel ever involved me on such a level.

Not familiar with that; is it perhaps Chinese?

John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men is near the top of my list, it's too hard to pick the greatest.

Your probably right, so I'll pick another: The Horsemen

Same here, Steinbeck was great. Grapes of Wrath, too, is a good book. There are way too many really, all different in their greatness. Don Quixote is funny, Catch-22 is crazy, I Am Legend is scary, The Lord of the Rings is thrilling.

    Tough nut to crack.

The Good Soldier Švejk is as the name suggest a very good one.
Compelling in many ways, I like it cause of the humour.

What my mind can figure out at the moment of other candidates are:

"Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell no doubt. An amazing book, I read it through in one session. The book really changed me

I agree, an excellent book, though I would still have to go with War And Peace as the greatest. Orwell was a genuis and his insight into modern politics is amazing. The concept of "double think" is for me the most intruiging and relevant idea from the book.

Oh man so many to name. The one that I thought was an I opener was The Stranger by Albert Camus. I haven't have the privilage or time to read War and Peace and some of the others mentioned.
