    Default Relics

I just captured Jerusalem with my Venetian crusading army, and the adviser said that i captured some kind of relic.I looked at my generals retinue, and i saw "crown of thorns".
Its some kind of relic. Is it useful somehow to me?It gives +2 piety and +1 command btw.

I think there's also a few pieces of the true cross (probably as many as there is in RL lol) and some swords you can also get.

Can you pass these on, i.e. if I get a Crown of Thorns can I give it to my kid or am I buried with it to assure access thru the Pearly Gates in spite of my 9 dread rating...

if not bury me with a ram, some ladders and 2 stacks of something with advanced armor!

Is it useful somehow to me?Can i sell it(hope god will forgive me)? That 2 piety and 1 command bonus isn't really worthwhile...And where do you get those parts of the true cross and swords?

its more of a status symbol, you tend to get it when crusading successfully to Jerusalem for the first time, I have noticed.

so you usually send your best general, and as such, the combined bonuses from the traits AND retinues/relics he gets for taking the objective will make him almost .. demi god like i guess? maxxed out? i had one maxxed out king once .. had to crusade to do it.

2 piety and 1 command isn't worthwile? There are few retinues that are more usefull then relics.

But no, you can't sell them.

Also, you can move these relics from one general to another. So if you're careful, you can keep this free stat-boost almost the entire game.

As I recall, some retinues you can't pass from one General to another and I suspect that these relics would be in the undroppable category.

I forget where I read this, but I was curious about the Relics last week and found it somewhere. There is supposed to be a 90% chance that the Relic will be passed onto the current owner's heir at his death. If he dies in battle this drops to 60% because it may get lost on the battlefield. If the Relic is lost on the battlefield there is a small chance that your Man of the Hour from that battle, assuming you get one, has it or that the enemy General finds it (assuming he is of the same faith?). If the relic gets lost it can reappear later on a random General or can be gained by Crusading again.

I've had the Holy Lance, Holy Grail (Monty Python and Indiana Jones are now burning with jealousy, lol) and a box something.
These things have no special meaning I believe, they're just stat boosters.

You mean the Ark of the Covenant? I think you get it in Cairo, and it gives command and dread.

When playing as Muslim factions, there are relics, too. I've received a bronze cast of the Prophet Muhammed's footprint, and one of his swords, too.

Facing almost certain defeat, one of the crusaders had a vision telling him that the Holy Lance was buried in the cathedral.
Well, actually, they were all starving, and it was a french priest that had the "vision." He said if they fasted for 5 days (not a hard feat in a starving besieged city!) deliverance would come. I think a few weeks later they decided no help was coming, and sallied forth. They claimed (although this may have been delusions brought on by hunger as well) that various Saints came from the sky and lead them to victory. Obviously, they won, and most continued on to Jerusalem to complete the objective of the First Crusade (that being, secure Jerusalem and specifically the Church of the Holy Sepulchre)

I've found the "Holy Shroud" or something like that, the cloth Jesus was covered with

"Crown of Thorns" Anyone who knows the mythology will recognize that one

"The Holy Lance" No clue what the description was, its been a while

I found the "Holy Grail" as well. Found them all during crusades, they all add piety IIRC, I know the Shroud also added personal and public security. If I remember correctly I did get that box as well, but I can't remember the description on that one. Also found the "Holy Spear" I think it was, the spear that pierced his side on the cross, that one added Piety and Command. Never seen any holy cross things though.

To my knowledge theres a chance you get any of these when winning a battle with islamic factions while on a crusade. Seems a bit more likely if your sacking the city the crusade was called on, though I know I got the shroud after a battle in some mountains.

Also, in the Crusades Campaign I got the Shroud on a Byzantine general after fighting a small battle with some turks.

For those who are interested, the Holy Lance actually was "discovered" by crusaders in Antioch. The men of the First Crusade had captured the city but were then besieged by the Turkish general Kerbogha. Facing almost certain defeat, one of the crusaders had a vision telling him that the Holy Lance was buried in the cathedral. The army was so inspired by his discovery that they sallied forth from the city and utterly defeated the Turks.

I've actually had the Holy Prepuce, yes, good old JC's foreskin, got it by capturing Jerusalem on a crusade. You can pass these from general to general, no problem.

Nice, good job. So you can transfer these it seems. Curious, what happens if I have a 10 star general and I give him an item with +2 command? First guess would be nothing, but weird things happen in M2TW...
