i dont understand what do u mean ?
well, i have vista, and DLV works fine, so just install it![]()
I have installed 5.0 and that works ok, but i can't install 5.3
i have tried changing the DLV_ext.cfg file but it won't let me
DLV 5.3 works fine on Vista 32 bit.
On Vista 64 bit there are some compatibility issues with MTW2 itself which could cause crashes using DLV. As far as im aware there is no fix for this as 64 bit systems still arnt really supported by the gaming industry. With the Kingdowms addon most of the compatibility issues were resolved but there stil remains a few sound crashes and random lockups.

Yep, 5.3 doesn't work for any great length of time on Vista x64
At least not on the three machines I've tried it on. (my friend all play MTW, but never really got into abusing it with mods).
Odd really, since other mods either work for longer periods of time (TLR), or seem to have no stability issues at all (Broken Crescent). Perhaps there's some code lines I could swap around that might cross-breed the stability of the others into DLV ?

I've tried a fair few edits and had no joy on Vista 64nit. Il admit other mods seem stabler but those seem to be the ones with less scripts running, leading me to presume the DLV crashes on DLV with 64bit Vista is due to the way in which 64bit vista allocates processer cycles to the scripts. As far as im aware none of the DLVelopers are 64bit Vista users so they arn;t able to recreate the problems in order to resolve them.

Evening - having recently upgraded my PC i have now ended up with Vista as well- on my old PC no instillation issues what so ever - until now.
I have Broken Crescent up and running as well as Kingdoms - however I seem to have issues with DLV 5.3
I have tried the following:
1. Uninstall & Reinstall
2. Changed CFG file - as shown on FAQS page file now reads:
[features]
editor = true
mod = DLV_ext
[log]
to = logs/system.log.txt
level = * error
[video]
widescreen=0
movies = false
[game]
allusers=1
I think something is wrong with this.
3. Gone to delete map file in world / maps / base / map.wrm - to ind it was not there when I loaded the 5.3 patch (it was there with 5.0)
Is there anything that I am missing? :hmmm:
I am sorry if this is yet another Vista issue but thankyou for all the hours of fun and enjoyment you gave me whilst at home recovering from surgery - you have made the pain go away!![]()

Is this Vista 32bit or 64bit? Ultimate, Premium or Basic?
On 32 bit Vista systems there is absolutely no difference with that to running DLV on XP. However on 64bit Vista you are going to run into a lot of issues due to the way in which 64bit assigns processor cycles and resources, which as a mod, DLV is unable to work with a slightly changed working of the Kingdoms.exe (in the same way as using a nocd exe would affect the working of the mod) and as such there is nothing that can be done except running in single core mode which is VERY unstable for both software and hardware with vista 64bit as its not meant to be run in that way.
If its Vista 32bit then im sure there will be something that can be looked at in order to get you up and DLVing again!

Thanks for those warming words! I am on the 32bit
i also cant play 5.3 with vista 64 bit. Dunno what it is, i gave up and went back to 5.2
See my post above, DLV has always been a bit twitchy on Vista 64bit but with the most recent version 5+ it's been pretty much unrunable due to the extra scripts and the way they are handled by the game mechanics.
Handerz: Just checking you are running and installing as an administrator anrt you?
Plus you arn't running any nocd .exe's?

im on 64 bit & if you change the map.rwm to be opened by wordpad or something, open it go to edit>select all & replace the text with a few lines of randomness dlv 5.3 will work fine. the fix will always stay (afaik) as long as you always turn ur comp off w/the shut down option. if u just hit the power button, u will have to do this every time before u play.
If you aren't careful...
...THIS will happen
What is the deal with Vista.... I got my HP right before Vista came out and I'm so glad now... Seems people have trouble with loads of games with Vista... I would be furious... How dare they make people pay for something that is supposed to better when it has so many problems...
Vista 32bit I have never had a problem with any game, however with my Vista 64bit machine I have had nothign but problems with games. Its due to the way Microsoft created the 64bit to be more process efficient for pure 64bit processes. XP 64bit had very similar problems when it was first launched with regards to running 32bit apps.
All in all Vista is a great and more efficient piece of kit if yo uare running a high end system, anythign else and you shoudl stick with XP for now. All this about Vista being a resource hog is crap from peopel who don;t know how to "cut the fat" off of their system.
GWS's fix does work but it can stop important elements of DLV working correctly, but, at least it gets DLV up and running rather then dropping to desktop!
V
I've actually got a pretty nice kit...With the exception that I could upgrade my graphics card ( Nvidia 6200)..... I will soon because it's a duel core HP and
it really cooks otherwise.. But I'm petrified to move to Vista because it took me a year to get it as stable as it is now....
Hi there - yes I am running as administrator and ref the nocd.exe not sure what you mean by this - but knowing the Broken Crescent works, I assume (could be incorrect here) that I am not running nocds.exe
@Handerz
Did you look into this as well?:
- Vista User: delete a DLV catalog you have on the computer
if you have a catalog at this location, delete it before installing the mod.
C:\Users\[Username]\appdata\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War"
Aszrayel - stupid question - what do you mean by delete a DLV catalog? Is this a file extension? Help is greatley appreciated and rubbing hands with glee as I feel I am getting warmer in resolving the issue.
