    Default Desktop Shortcut's.

Long story short, I lost the two Roma Surrectum shortcut's on my desktop. I searched through all my folder's and found no shortcut's, I also did a window's search for Roma Surrectum.

And what exactly is your problem, my friend? Cant you do new ones? Or cant you find RS installed on your computer at all?

    Gaius:

Just so you understand, clicking the .exe file in the RS directory doesn't load my version of the game correctly, either. Creating a hotlink won't work unless you have the full path. In order to load RS so that I can play it, I have to click the desktop links that Marcus provided. If I try to use the .exe file, I get a funky mixture of RTW and RS. Try it on your machine.

So, yes, he needs the link paths.

Why? I don't know. Maybe someone with more computer knowledge than I (which would be almost anyone) could explain it.

This is the path of my shortcut:

    RS RTW: "C:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -nm -show_er
    RS BI : "C:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod

    and the Icon is in:
    C:\Games\Rome - Total War\rome_icon.ico

I can understand why you need to use the shortcut for RS using RTW BI (as it uses the "-mod" switch) but not the RTW one.

If I run the RomeTW-BI.exe I get the RTW launch screen followed by the 'error loading mount database' error message.

If I run the RomeTW.exe I get RS but using the vanilla interface....

Yes, that's what I get, too.

Sorry for the lack of question, Gaius, I was very rushed at the time of making the thread. Yes, I need new shortcut's, I'm going to try see if I can't get Marcus' solution to work.

EDIT: Excellent! I merely had to change the path to suit my folders, and it worked, thank you all for the help . For anyone else having the problem the path file for the Roma Surrectum icon is (to change the shortcut icon to, after creating it) "D:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\rome_icon" given your using a 2nd hard-drive with SEGA's RTW Gold installed, otherwise it would be the old publisher, whom I forget.

Activision were the original publisher of RTW.

As stated in the installer thread, RS breaks BI. The 'error loading mount database' message is caused by the fact that RS uses a shared file between BI and RTW, and makes a number of changes to it. Using BI with RS is as simple as copying the BI.exe into any copied RTW folder and playing the game with the BI CD. You don't even need all the other BI stuff.

Thanks for that, it makes sense. I keep my installs in separate folders even if they are mod switch versions (easier to make sure one install doesn't mess up another one and very easy to remove a mod).

It seems a while ago that I installed RS so I've already forgotten the install instructions. I did read them at the time, though.
