    He is playing vanilla, that shouldn't impact. He might get a slow down at some of the Russian forests (large area of animated trees) but shouldn't get a crash.

    OK, this might sound silly: update your sound drivers - for some esoteric reason outdated sound drivers have an effect on M2TW's graphic processing. Won't hurt to update the graphic drivers as well and still do the administrator permissions for the medieval2.exe.

    What graphic card are you using?
    What is your processor speed?

    Ok, can someone help me with this, I've made like this new traits and I've added them to EB personally, but whenever I try to play a campaign (Romans), the game immediately crashes to desktop. Even if I keep just 1 trait, it still crashes, here are the details of the trait:

    AntiTrait doesn't work in M2TW so you can remove that enormous line. (This is the M2TW workshop)
    There is a limit to the effects a trait can have, but I am not sure how many it was.

    Recommendation: post his in the Text & Editing workshop in it's own thread. Or the corresponding forum for RTW. (your closing comment suggests you are modding RTW)

    Oh, ok, thanks for the links and suggestions.

    Just to clarify it, I did know about the AntiTrait limit, but I read that with v 1.5 u had a limit a of 20 AntiTraits, and the ones I checked were well below 20.

    I dipped my toe into model swapping and this was my first time going through it. The very first time I tested the mesh out I had actually forgotten to tell the BMDB that and it loaded the original mesh (a 2h swordsman) perfectly fine. As soon as I fixed that oversight, I get the crash specified on the lead post. I've done my own digging to try and avoid making this post, but all I've been able to do is narrow it down to the mesh itself. The textures are fine, the syntax is fine, everything is fine except my new mesh. What is wrong with the mesh, I don't bloody know.

    Any thoughts? The pdf from Ishan has a link to a thread about mesh texture mishaps, but that mishap is about messed up textures in-game, not meshes that cause a CTD during the loading screen. Considering the nature of this, I imagine there probably is a thread, somewhere, that has answered this plight already, but I didn't find it with a cursory glance at the thread list.

    I am not sure if it's the mesh itself (that's usually a battle crash imo) - rather a format issue in the modelDB, because I am surprised it lists the LOD distance (640) in the message.

    I probably should've explained that the loading screen I talked about was loading for a custom battle with the unit in question. This mesh was meant to be an armour upgrade for one specific unit, and it is only that particular upgrade that crashes the game. Since this was my first go at model swapping, I planned on testing everything in custom battles just to make sure it works.

    However you mentioned formatting. Could you go into a little more detail for me?

    Okay, I have no idea wtf I went through. I decided to redo the combination just for the heck of it, and now it works beautifully. There was indeed something wrong with my mesh, however what the hell it was, I will probably never find out if someone knowledgeable about the situation doesn't look at my attached document in my original post about this problem, because I overwrote the files when I redid the combination.     Long time no news, but recently I tried again and finally found an solution. So for any other having problems with NVIDIA GTX280:
    Download and install 310.90 driver.
    Download MSi Afterburner and increase voltage and MHZ for core and memory by 20-25%
    Everything works fine now even on maximum resolution and high quality graphics.

    Hi fellow experts

    I encounter CTD with the Sigh of Empire (M2TW: Kingdoms) mod whenever I order the assassin to sabotage buildings. The game can load the beginning parts of the vanilla sabotage animation (assassin ignite and kicking near a settlement), sabotage video also works fine, but the game crashes when the sabotage video finishes or is closed.

    The error log only says:
    Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

    Please help

    Hi Sacrebleu! (great name!)

    Suggestions - make sure your log is on "level = * trace" in the .cfg - have a look at the preceding dozen or so lines so you can see what it's doing before the crash message.

    Load the vanilla game or BareGeomod (with log on trace too) and try the same action with the assassin - note anything that happens after the video (do you get a success/fail message ?)

    Quit shortly afterwards and look at the end of the log for that - what happened in the working version after your mod's version crashed.

    I'm guessing you might be either missing the text for a message that's meant to appear - or have a problem with a trait/anc that's getting triggered by the assassin mission. (quick way to test if its trait/anc related is to temporarily delete all the triggers from the bottoms of export_descr_character_traits & export_descr_ancillaries EDIT; and for triggers - export_descr_guilds.txt too)

    The game crashed after loading the sabotage video and the assassin strat_model's animation. It did not load the success / failure message. I have checked all my text entry and everything seems to be correct when compared with vanilla text entries.

    I've tested with vanilla assassin model in SOE campaign and it crashed in exactly the same way. But playing vanilla campaign and the assassin sabotage works just fine.

    I'm wondering if there are any other files I missed checking?

    No indication of a missing message (they are default vanilla anyhow: text\event_strings, not historic_events). My money is on a faulty animation, disable the movie by adding assassination_movies = 0 into your mod's CFG file's [video] section to confirm.

    Thanks for the tips Gigantus. I've checked all entries in descr_skeleton and pasted vanilla entries over it just for good measure. Have tested it further accordingly. Unfortunately it still CTD with or without the sabotage video. I've re-enabled the movie and recorded the crash in a clip here for analysis:

    What happens if you try different sorts of missions with the assassin, e.g. an actual assassination?

    has your mod attempted to add videos to other event messages?

    anyway can you find what's calling that file
