    Default Union of Kalmar

Has anyone else formed the Union of Kalmar when playing as Denmark in the Teutonic Campaign and then was not able to recruit the units they promised? I played the campaign with Denmark 3 times to get it right and get the banners changed, and i still couldn't recruit new units.

Also, do not wipe out Norway. Only kill their king, but do not wipe them out as a faction.

If you do, you will not get the union.

I had to capture the better part of Scandinavia, and kill the king (usually by capturing the little village he hides out in, leaving Norway with their capital).

If I destroy the faction, the kalmar union isn't offered to me? Was there any way in particular that you took them out that gave the option to you?

All you do is wait for the king to die, you don't need to fight norway!

Hi all, a question from a newbie: do you need to be at peace with the Norwegians to trigger the Alliance?

On the turn I was sieging the last required rebel Scandinavian settlement, the silly Norw -totally unprovoked- attacked me with a naval blockade, in spite of several turns of courtesies by my diplomat.

I just waited several turns without attacks on either side, but they wouldn't accept a truce. In the process their king died and nothing happened.

As I need to close that front (I am at war with all the others but the Mongols ) and two cities in a corner area are appealing, is it worth waiting for the Alliance or shall I just blast their faction away?

I should mention that I got the Hansa league house (4k well spent...).

No need to be at peace. I was at war for 15 turns until my assassins were good enough to murder the king (20% chance and succeeded on the first try :d). But i still didnt get any units. Banners changed etc, but still no units.

Thanks Pyrebound, then I'll just annihilate them.

After another 12 or so turns, we are still at war without any actual fighting - I just displaced some of their merchants by having a battered captain of mine sitting on the resource. This is because of their spectacular finance (I am second at 40% or so), added to the fact they have a mid size castle. I don't want to keep a garrison in what might easily become my backyard...

There is something odd in the diplomacy here: whenever my diplomat manages to improve the relationship, in the same turn it just gets worse... so as I see it there is no way of ever getting to a truce.

I also read of a unit bug once the Union is made so really I don't see the point!

There is a fix to the Kalmar Union, I got it from here. I think it is from the first page of the bug report on the top of this page. And the Walsh rebellion fix.
Riddle me this, riddle me that:
    Who was my first commander?
How many of me are active right now?
And who drank a Delacourt '27 when received the commandership of me?

The best way to kill the King is by luring him into a field battle, then overdrive all of your units towards the generals bodyguard. Once the king is dead pull out all your troops and retreat. Wallah! You have now formed the union of Kalmar without having to recruit and train a load of Assassins.

The Kingdom Bug Report topic, stickied on the top of the page, 5 or 7 posts down on the first page has the links to the Kalmar Union and Walsh Rebellion fixes. And both links works.

Expanding off the bug fixes for the Kalmar Union suggested by MCDS2, I have started working on a mod creating a fully functional Norway faction. It's nothing fancy, but I've run into a problem. I have created a 'Union of Visby', as a sort of Union of Kalmar for the Norweigan Faction. It works fine, but I can't seem to find a way to edit the announcements that come up throughout it to reflect norway instead of denmark (the openning announcement, and the you have all the provinces just kill the king to win announcement). Is there a way to edit the text on these announcements, and if so do I need extra software or just directions on where to find the right files?
