Default DLV 5.2 is far too easy.

I am literally swimming in cash after 5-10 turns.

The campaign AI is non exhistant - even on VH/VH it doesn't expand aggressively and is far too easy to outsmart.

If you leave a settlement with less than 3 units defending it will always attack, regardless of alliances. *yawn

France, HRE, England etc all fail to expand enough in the first 20 turns, meaning it is a piece of cake for the player to take and hold huge chunks of the map.

    etc etc etc

I was also dissapointed to see that although you are making use of the Kingdoms .exe you don't have stuff like battle speeches from generals ported from Kingdoms for factions like Jerusalem ..

Anyway, just a rant. Its free after all and that I can't criticize.

It is far too easy however, especially with the 'big three' issues:

    1. Campaign AI (AI lacks aggression, cordinated attacks, military expansion etc. no water crossing invasions or attacks etc etc)
    2. Battle AI (suicide archers, passive cavalry, massed attack at sieges resulting in total annihlation etc)
    3. Financial settings (way too much cash for the player)

I also note that building castles is pointless, since you get far more cash for settlements and can dominate the AI in the first 50 turns with nothing more than mercenaries, peasants and spear militia ..

Oh and you really need to fix the rebel spawn script.

    Its rubbish.

If a city is seiged, the face can turn red irrespective of the tax rate or the number of churches you have built. What happens then? Every single turn you are under seige, a massive and totally unassailable rebel army is spawned.

I counted 8 such armies after a length seige of Paris.

Guess what? They only attack YOUR settlements.

    Next:

When a faction leader dies, if he has 'been at the seat of power' you can suddenly find your Capital has no governor and the heir is at least 2 turns away.

    Guess what?

Yup. Mr Red Face appears and heralds the arrival of more massive rebel armies you can't beat with the garrisson you have.

One I don't mind, its a challenge, but 3-infinity is absurd.

Also, the AI factions don't seem to suffer much by way of rebels. Kind of pointlessly unfair and a lame bodge of a rebalancer!

If the game is fundamentally unfair, and made more so to re-enforce dodgy game balance then it just isn't fun. As it is, the experience swings between impossibly easy and impossibly boring.

I agree a little on the rebel spawn, it does get quite annoying but it also adds something not many other mods do. However i rarely have governors in settlements and haven't seen the red face of doom anywhere except in regions which are recently captured and a different relgion to my own.
By the sounds of it you are playing DLV as a rusher, this game isnt meant to be played that way. If you take your time you will notice the AI in DLV is some of the best you will encounter in MTW2 and doesn't obey only a set amount of actions as yo useem to be indicating. Of course if you rush your settlements will be unhappy, you will get the same rebel spawns, you will also get bad traits for any governors as his population will hate him.

On any difficulty if you are playing as a rush player rather then enjoying the slow, steady build up that DLV has to offer then you will always experience the problems you are complaining about.
The AI expands aggressively but not to the extent that they take so many provinces that they have a civil war and mass revolts (seem familiar to you and your nation?). Instead they expand and conquer in a realistic way, securing locations they take for a few years before pushing on.

No water crossing invasions? Thats probably because you arnt giving them time to build up, i normally play as England and i've had French, Danish, Irish, Spanish and even RUSSIAN armies land on my fair land! You just have to take time and play it in a more role play way rather then pretending its some sort of medieval command and conquer tank rush.

Ultimately DLV suites players who enjoy the role playing element, the management of both cities and armies, realistic expansion and diplomacy. If you don't have the patience to play through several hundred turns building up your dynasty and slowly bring the world under your control then you should perhaps look for a different mod.
    Regards,
    V

Like Valantine said DLV is a slow-paced, role playing, and micro-managing type of mod. A lot of the things you do in the mod you need to think many turns beforehand on what you plan on doing. Blitzing in DLV is somewhat possible but if you don't keep your people happy then they will riot and even have a chance of rebelling if you don't keep your settlements above the blue face via the rebel spawn script. Blitzing can also result in an easier yet not as satisfying experience imho. Rebels can also spawn if your leader has low authority, your treasury is in negatives for a period of time, you don't crown a new faction leader within a few turns (new leader can get the 'offends the nobles' trait if not crowned). All this stuff you need to plan ahead for. I know sometimes things happen that you can't help by planning but by doing so things should go a lot smoother at least. Besides...part of the fun and difficulty of DLV are things that happen unexpectedly.
