    Default Dates & Seasons

    Hi Guys,

I just installed EB1 on my laptop. I noticed something odd and thought I'd post it here, although I probably messed something up. Here goes:

New Campaign: Romani. Start-up screen says 'Summer 272BC'. I activate script but only get two seasons: summer and winter. I play for a dozen or so moves anyway and save the game. I reload the game and the on-screen calendar at bottom-right says AD 14.

I quit the game and start a new campaign. Start-up screen says 'Summer 272BC' and when the campaign loads, the calendar (bottom right) tallies. So I'm assuming it's summer 272 BC.

I end turn to see what happens. It's still 272 BC. I mouse over the sunny symbol on the calendar and it says 'spring, summer or fall'. Because the start-up screen said summer, I guess it must be fall.

I end turn. It's still 272BC but instead of winter, the calendar again says 'spring, summer or fall'. I end turn and get the same result.

Finally, on turn number 4 I get a snowflake symbol and the calendar says 'winter 272 BC'.

And so now I'm thinking that the campaign actually started in spring 272 and not summer, like it says on the start-up screen.

I save the game and quit.

I reload the game and activate the script. It's still winter 272 BC. Good! I end turn and now it is 'spring, summer or fall' 271 BC.

I'm presuming that, when I only got two seasons, followed by a jump from 272BC to AD 14, that I must have screwed up loading the script.

And I'm presuming that, once the script is working OK, the seasons progress through spring, summer, fall and winter.

But why does the start-up screen say 'summer 272BC' when, according to my experiences above, it must be spring?

Because the RTW engine doesn't know "spring" or "fall".
It only knows "summer" and "winter".

It is only after you activate the script that spring and fall "exist".
    Capisci?

OK, I see. It was the 'Summer 272BC' on the start-up screen that confused me - is there no way this can be changed to 'Spring 272BC'? just a thought . . .

I think if it could be done, it already would have been.

Yeah, until the script is activated, it is actually Summer.
In all actuality, the game thinks it goes summer, summer, summer, winter, summer, summer, summer, winter, etc. So, when it says it is summer in spring or fall, by the programs definition, it is.

    About the AD14 thing:
This will happen if you have activated the script twice in the same session. You can often activate the script multiple times in the same session without any problems, but it is safest to exit the game and restart to avoid this problem.

Also, if you activate the script as one faction then play a different faction and activate the script a second time, the script or the script will do crazy thing. Never play two different factions without exiting RTW first.

Is there a way to make the advisor to said what season is it. Like the one in Imperator II on each end turn. Just wondering...

This is, obviously, but it was decided against, seeing as most people would get annoyed by it.
