Default Warluster's Mini Mods and Campaigns

    Warluster's Mini Mods and Campaigns

Over some time I am / will be making several Maps and Campaign fixes. The maps shall be only that; maps. THey are mainly for the use of Major Mods, and if you want to use one please ask so. The Campaigns though will be ones made by me to cover times in history close to or in thr RTW/ Bi time range.

The first map will be a redone Grand Campaign Map adding provinces such as Malta, Corisca, some in Italy and several others.

    Screenshots:
    Corisca:

More will come when I have done some more work on the map. If anyone has suggestions regarding new Regions I will happily add them for you. Work should take a few weeks.

There shall be several maps for download, as I said for Major Mods but also probably personal use. With this Map is two others I am working on, a Greek Map and Middle East one, both for BI. After all three are released I shall get to work on a Byzantine Campaign.

The info about the Byzantine Campaign is:
    - Starts in 476 to 826.
-Including exsisting factions of Byzantine Empire, Sassiand Empire, Vandals, Ostrogoths it will include 3 new factions. Carolingian Empire, Arab Empire and Duchy of Naxos among some.
-New script, where the Arab Empire arrives on the map in 6th Century, among several other important things.
-New banners, strat models and map.

It is in production now, and should be fairly easy. Most factions done, Naxos and Arab Empire still need to be done though and map is nearly finished. Will attain a script and release will come after. But first of all this Map and the Greek one.

Any comments regarding what you want in the map, or if you want to use it in your mod feel free to ask!

Very nice. Hope to see the other maps

We have started working towards a mod - it is called, Total War: Empires & Colonies.
It covers the era 1500-1700 which is a unique era that has not been done by any mod with the following theme: a superpower unleashing its might outside the mountain ranges of Anatolia, the Ottoman Turks stand poised to take the world by storm. But they stand surrounded. To the South lies the aged Mamlukes of Egypt, a reminiscent of days gone by. To the East lies Persia, a country rich with resources, occupied by the young Safavid regime. And to the West lies Rome and the world of Christendom, where the Hungarians and Venetians and Napolitans stand united against Istanbul.
And who knows, if God wills it, they may even take the Holy Roman Empire and France!

I am will be releasing the sketch of the map (from India to Portugal) by the end of this week, hopefully. If you are interested, we would really appreciate it if you joined us.
    Thanks

In regards to the rise of Islam (ooh, Mod idea ), how are you going to add the various Islamic buildings. You should probably consult with the IBFD team as to how they added Judiasm and Buddihism to thier mod.

Just to let everyone know; I've skipped straight to the Byzantine mod; now named The New Empire. It is now 600 AD to 1080 AD. It has become a bit larger and maybe not a Mini Campaign; and several Skinner's have already contributed some skins to this mod. (A great thank's to them, so far Basileos and morfeasnikos)

More infomation; and hopefully screenshots, are to come in due course. (As is a map)

I am looking for a few helper's though; mainly 2-D artist's to help with Family Portrait's and other such thing's. A Scripter for such help and at least four Historical Researcher's to help with info on Byzantine, Arab, Avar and Ostrogoth nation's of the time. Thanks to contribution's made (As I stated) the Byzantine faction is half completed.

A more offical announcement is hopefully to be made; this time with some art, screenies and a new thread for a fresh start.

    Great project Warluster!

In your 1st post you said the mod starts in 476 and ends in 826AD.

in Post#6 you changed the starting and end-time.
is the research accomplished concerning the Roman units?
Because from 600 to 1080 (huge time-frame of 480years) they changed their face several times.

-At the beginning they had still strong elements of the last roman Legions including Milites Comitatenses (first time noticed by Belisarius), Lanciarii and local Milites and Limitanei (esp. arab. christians in Syria or berbers in Africa).
The light troops (Milites) were partially still equipped with the linen tunica of the late antique!

-The dark ages changed the units again

    - and last but not least the reforms of the 9th century.

    In detail:
It is always very important to remember that we are talking about the Roman Empire in the East.
The Empire changed a lot of times the design and the structure.
First we find a greek Phalanx,
then the reformed army system dependant on the tax-system (Triarii/Princeps/Hastatii),
then the Cohorta Reformata of Marius,
    then the Imperial Legions,
then Diocletians reform of Comitatenes and Limitanei,
the confusing army in the time-frame between Aetius and Iustinian.

The time of Herakleios provided a mix which is even today not 100% clear and free of questions. We still find the old Legions (Quinta Macedonia!) in form of Milites Comitatenes. Partially reduced to guard-services like Limitanei (and in cities).
The backbone (and part of the Limitanei) were the units of Lykokranitai, Ghassanid Foederati or Equites Vandali.
    The roman units in Italy were the Theodosiaci, Patrikios Obsequium. The field army was provided by the Pedites Italiae;
as part of the Exercitus Italiae these units formed the field army. Small, but even here: very professional. The most professional units seems to be the Scoutatos.

And in this time era a new system was developed in the last third of the 7th century. It is not 100% clear when the themes were introduced. Even if Herakleios had the idea... - the professional creation was after his death, that is what the modern history thinks.

And after the dark ages were finished (2nd half of the 9th century) we see another time a different army. Esp. in the reign of Basil II (the bulgar-slayer) the army had still roman field signs and roman standards. However, the design was partially totally different compared to the "dark ages". Now we find units like Hoplitai, Tzakones, Menavlatoi...and so on...

It is an ambitious project, no doubt.
A Marian Reform would do :-)

    Best regards

A Byzantine campaign sounds like it would be challenging to mod, but well worth the effort.

You can't include 480 years of the Roman Empire in "one" mod-project. That's not possibel. I suggest to read my last post.
A helpful tool is the Marius Reform.
And that was my question: Is it planned to include that feature? What about the units? and so on.
But still no answer on my question!!!

Thanks for the research and feedback.

I obviously won't be able to achieve maximun historical accuracy, but I will porbably be forced to shorten the campaign.

Many skinners have happily contributed some of the works towards this mod. Thanks many people (In the new thread will be credited) the Byzantine and Arab factions are complete unit wise. Also the Crusader:TW team has let us use their map so thats good as well. Tokus*Maximus is also making a beautiful loading screen!

In the mod I aim for Justinian's amazing expansion efforts. I hope to make the best of that, but also want to represent the Arab invasions to their full potential. The new thread is coming as well.
