Badlands Guardian: man-made or just coincidence?

The Badlands Guardian is a geomorphological feature located at [show location on an interactive map] 50°00′38.20″N, 110°06′48.32″W near Medicine Hat in the south east corner of Alberta, Canada. Viewed from the air, the feature bears a strong resemblance to a human head wearing a full native American headdress. It also appears to be wearing earphones.

The head is a drainage feature created through erosion of soft, clay-rich soil by the action of wind and water . The arid badlands are typified by infrequent but intense rain-showers, sparse vegetation and soft sediments. The 'head' may have been created during a short period of fast erosion immediately following intense rainfall. The apparent earphones are a road and an oil well, which has been in place only a few years, and will likely become invisible once the well falls into disuse and its superficial features are eroded. The feature is best viewed from Google Maps (satellite view). The lighting is ideal for bringing out the apparent facial features. Although the image appears to be a positive feature, it is actually a negative feature (a valley)[1].

Originally discovered by Lynn Hickox (screen name "Supergranny" on Google Earth)[2], suitable names were canvassed by CBC Radio One program As It Happens[3]. Out of 50 names submitted, seven were suggested to the Cypress County Council. They altered the suggested 'Guardian of the Badlands' to become Badlands Guardian.

Is it really possible for erosion to create a perfect image of a human head??? I really dont think so. Erosion doesnt make art.

Anyone notice how wisconsin seems to resemble a human head too? Or that Lake Superior resembles a wolf? Or that the lower Pensila of Michigan resembles a mitten, or that italy resembles a boot those must all be made by aliens too!

It isn't a perfect image. It's a resemblance. Remember, the human mind tries to see faces in patterns.

Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountains, etc ad infinitum disagree.

It's a coincidence.

Oh, and it didn't form by "chance". There isn't such a thing.

Jeez Lunar4, an interesting image, but it has been long known that the human brain seeks to notice a pattern when looking at garbled or static-ridden visual cues. I don't know how often I've looked at a cloud or a cliff-face and "seen" designs which I know my brain finds remarkably familiar.....the connection, the association of meanings, is all mine.

An ant or a cow doesn't give two hoots what I "see".
