Got $6000 American for an overclocked gaming machine. The best graphics card is only as good as the board it's plugged into and the monitor you're watching.
Here my specs to give you an idea.
CPU : Athlon 64x2 5000+ (Best today is something like 64x 6000+ without going into the ridiculous (quad core))
Graphics Card : Radeon 3850 ((ATI's 2nd best card to date)
2 gig of 800mhz DDR.
My game performance =
Amount of men before noticable framerate hit = Just over 5000 men,
Game stutters at start of Historical battles like Hastings where lots of men are shown moving in close up detail, and framerate drops below 20.
I run at 1140x768 with 2x temporal AA, and everything else set to maximum.

My specs are:
AMD64 2-core 4600 (2.4Ghz)
Radeon x1950pro set on factory default
Windows XP
3 gb ddr2 ram
The game is set on its preferences
Monitor resolution is 1024x768 for these old eyes.
I played a small battle (about 1000menx1000men) with no lag.
Yeah, I have a SLI motherboard, going to wait for prices to drop considerably then I'll buy another 3850 since I have a SLI motherboard.
Yeh like irishron said you are going to have to spend A LOT of money if you want everything on highest settings and no lag whatsoever. You would need two Nvidia 8800gtx linked via SLI for starters. I would wait a while for prices to drop or buy a new direct x 10.1 card when they are released.
I saw, I bought, I played
