    Default Trait Issues

    Sorry if this is supposed to be in the bugs/errors subforum, looked through it and wasn't sure if this is an error, or resulting from my gameplay.

    anyway,

    it seems like every single Governor i have develops the "Ignorant" trait.

    this then proceeds to "Sadly Ignorant" and whatnot. I used a new family member as a test subject, he was a budding bureaucrat and good with numbers, I set his tax rate to High and constantly built things in his city.

    Soon enough he developed the Ignorant trait.

    Also, I wasn't sure till I confirmed it with that player, it seems as though the trait system leans toward "Bad with taxes" or whatever. I didn't switch the test subject's tax rate once (kept at high) and he had good with numbers. Still, he developed into a bad taxman.

    Once again, sorry if I am bringing up something discussed ad nauseam, or in the wrong place, but I wanted to actually have a discussion about it, see if its a flaw or my gameplay, and find out how everyone else's family members are developing.

    thx!

    I get the 'ignorant' trait a lot as well, perhaps something coded wrong in the traits-system
    Some day I'll actually write all the reviews I keep promising...

    On the other hand, it's the middle ages. Most people WERE ignorant.

    ignorance is bliss
    Hello. Today we are gathered here to do battle. Regretable, isn't it? but sometimes, you know, life is like that. You have to do something that you don't want to do, just because someone is telling you to do it. I didn't want to be here myself, but then my mother told me that I'd better make a reasonable show of it all, so here we go then...
    Today we fight against monsters - the Gauls! They are dangerous, mad and hairy beyond reason. In victory, they are always heartless.

    If you're playing the Kypchak, I've noticed that trend. It may be coded into the game that certain factions are just more likely to suffer from bad governor traits. In the case of the Kypchak, it's reasonable. They're nomads, not city dwellers and thrive on warfare more than settling down.

    When I played Armenia on the other hand, they had remarkably good governors with some awesome traits.

    According to descr_traits, it happens most often if your governor sits too much time in a settlement without town hall or education building. If your governor manages to pick the opposite trait (well spoken) you're safe to move him anywhere

    I am using the Abbasid faction. I think they should be at least decent governors. Not a migrant faction.

    I know for a fact that each of the cities these men were in had town halls.

    However, I did not move these men around very much, if at all. That may be the crux.

    They also get ignorant if they stay outside of settlements. The only way to prevent this is to place them some time in a well developed city with a town hall or best (council chamber, etc) so they can get the "well spoken" trait and next ones (although this trait can again become negative later when your governor is too boring when he speaks ). Works well for Baghdad.
    Indeed, this trait could be lowered a little. Cause it's quite annoying

    Here is the trigger for ignorant trait
    "
    Trigger sitting_around_academic_free_settlement
    WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

    Condition IsGeneral
    and EndedInSettlement
    and RemainingMPPercentage = 100
    and not SettlementBuildingExists >= library
    and not SettlementBuildingExists >= alchemists_lab
    and not SettlementBuildingExists >= city_hall

    Affects Ignorance 1 Chance 4
    "

    The line "remainingMPpercentage" is quite interesting. It seems that simply moving your generals should solve the problem, since the trigger takes effect only if the general didnt move during the previous turn. However, some good traits need to keep 100% of the MP. So basically, if your general cannot get the well spoken trait, move him just a little each turn. If he's already eloquent, you can let him alone.
