Default Suggested Strategies For A New Scotland Campaign?

    Hey People

Im quite new to the game, and im playing the Brittania campaign. Ive completed Scotland on E/E, M/M, and M,H. Obviously this isnt a big acheivment but im new so cut me some slack

Im going to start a Scotland H/H long campaign, and I want to have a solid strategy, rather than improvise all the way through like a normally do. Any ideas?

    Help appreciated

Well,I suggest you form an alliance with the other rival factions except Norway. If England refuses an alliance, just be sure that your settlements near their borders have a sizable garrison.

Meanwhile, focus more of your attention on the Norweigans, and try to wipe them out. Afterwards, attack Ireland and Wales, before finishing off England.

I hope this strategy will help

I suggest to make as many Allies at the start of the game. Basically, try to stay neutral and only attack Rebels and armies that are hostile to you. Then, when you have a good economy and army established, ally with Ireland and Wales and strike down England.
    Hope this helps

You can pretty much ignore Ireland, they very rarely leave their island. (Ireland itself is an enormously rich set of provinces so they're worth conquering but you can win perfectly easily without doing so.)

England will have its hands full with Wales, Ireland and eventually the Baron's Alliance. They're unlikely to trouble you in the beginning of the game. It's worth putting a sacrificial unit or two in your southernmost castles just in case the English backstab you. The AI often gets really slowed down dealing with castles.

Wales has no shared border with you and probably wont be an issue until they have largely defeated England.

That leaves Norway. In my experience Norway will attack you almost immediately even if you manage to ally with them. On Hard difficulty they will have a lot more troops than you can afford, which makes them dangerous, and they get scripted reinforcements early on too.

One tactic is to hold them at the bridge northwest of Inverness, beat their field army and then besiege Wick. If this devolves into a stalemate then eventually you'll get William Wallace and a stack load of troops which should let you push your way through. Once you have their mainland castle their ability to attack you drops markedly and you can pick them off at your leisure as all their cities are on islands and can't support each other.

It's easy to get distracted taking rebel settlements at the beginning but be careful. Pretty much all of those western rebel settlements are worthless hovels and having your armies out of position can really hurt when Norway attacks with a full stack or two. I actually humiliatingly lost Inverness in my hard/very hard game.because I sent too many troops to capture rebel settlements after allying with Norway, then they backstabbed me...

If you can get your economy rolling and kill the Norwegians then you should be able to dominate the campaign in any way that you want as you have a very simple front and almost all of your territories are safe. The Welsh generally crumble to a good infantry charge, the English are a bit trickier as pikemen often suck in open battles. Weight of numbers will do the trick though.

Get rid of Norwary fast. They are mostly infantry based, so get some quality archers, some highlanders until you can get highland nobles, and use light cavalry and knights or General's body guard to charge at their flanks.

Try to maximize the amount of cities you have. Grab York quickly, try to expand quickly and grab as many rebel settlements as possible. Sack them for the extra cash for expansion.

Ally with Wales and Ireland, and Baron's later on. Trade with England until Norway is gone.
