HA slaughtered my legionaries in melee :(

It's an unit of 30+ HAs vs 10+ armenian legionaries. Their HAs have 6 melee attack and almost no defense, and my legionaries are silver. Yet they slaughtered my legionaries by knife in just a few seconds, before they rout - and that's M/M difficulty!

How can that even happen??! general bonus??

I lost my first non-automatic-resolve battle in armenian campaign... 11 units of legionaries were all killed. Damn the parthians!

It saves me a lot of money though, since they have only two cities and this battle cost half of their last army which defend the capatial from bactrians (they went to war against parthians just after i sent 10,000 ). Now their days are numbered, too, following the poor seleucids.

Well, the odds were in their favour 3:1. Usually, the cavalry force is a lot smaller than the infantry.

What state were your legionares in before that melee? Were they tired or did they have other morale problems? I presume that they have lost a lot of men from their unit which doesn't help morale not does the fact that they are outnumbered.

You may find that they also get an attack/charge bonus.

They're tired and steady. But they didn't rout, instead they fought and died like true armenian warriors! Even though they didn't kill anyone :-/

The HAs didn't charge - they're pursued to the border and forced to engage in melee. In theory they should just all die or rout, as happened in my sarmatian/parthia campaigns. I dunno the general bonus though. I didn't have a general there and the parthian general may be their faction leader...

And it seems they deliberately tricked my legionaries to attack two small armies, and then moved the primary army in and forced a fight, by blocking all 3 ways that i could have used to retreat....

The Parthians are just that good

Every single battle I've fought with Parthia (in RTR Plat 1.9 campaign) against the Seleukids has been a heroic victory, all because I'm sending all cav armies against all infantry forces.

Are you sure you didn't face any cataphracts?

there are cataphracts, of course. But most of their units are poor "C..." swordman and spearman.

If their units are generally that good, they wouldn't have lost that siege battle eariler:
