armor types

Hello all, forgive me for the likely wrong place to ask this question. But as the EB team has an extensive knowledge, i figured since i do not know where to post this, ill take my chances here.
I was just wondering what the most effective armor is. What i mean is, what was the pros and cons of common armors. Such as the Lorica Segmentata (sp?) as opposed to chain mail. Or even scale. Thanks, -Leon
