    Default Poor cities....

    Hi all!

    Anyone know why some cities are very poor compared to others? My armenian capital is a large city now with over 15,000 people, yet the tax collected there is far fewer than the income of some newly conquered towns. And they have almost the same public order levels (green face, 150%+). What's happening to my city???

    The number that appears in on the strategy map includes a portion of the upkeep of all your armies. What also happens that the larger settlements pay more towards the upkeep. So a small settlement can appear to have more profit than a larger settlement.

    If you look at the settlement details menu and also the trade you will get a good idea of what is happening to your settlement.

    Some settlements do have better trade resources than others. The resources are shown on the map (timber, marble, furs etc).

    Farming income can also affect the outcome. Some regions are more fertile than others and end up with more money.

    Yes, farm income does effect the total. However, it can be affected by a bad harvest. There is also mining income as well.

    The following is the summary of Armvir in my Macedonian RTR 6 Gold campaign;

    The income is
    Trade (550), Mining (750), Taxes (844) and Farms (736) giving a total of 2880

    The outgoings are
    Devastation (73), Corruption (921), Armed Forces (690) and Generals/Agents (273) giving a total of 1957

    So, the difference is 923 yet the screen shows 996.....

    Also ... don't just have Caius the Stupid running your large/resourse rich towns. Also, be aware of guys that hate farming, are bad tax collectors ...

    Then there are the wonderful aids like the brilliant inventor (+20% mining takes mine output to 900), task masters, Geometers etc.

    Some of these guys have negative influence stats though .. so it's a good idea to run your Generals in a few battles to build up their influence.

    ok but it's not just the upkeep. The capital's tax income and trade income are almost as same as those of small towns, if not worse. How can that even happen?! The governor is fine, I tested and he has no negative or positive effect to the city.

    Hmmm

    There's a guide from froggy beast for the regular vaniall RTW where she discusses taxes. I'll dig it up.

    I don't think frogbeastegg wrote the guide I think the authors name was...sepulchulus or aeschullus...

    Regardless, it's still a good guide...I have a hardcopy I use as a reference all the time

    We can't see what you are referring to so you need to explain it more. We don't know what the income is for your capital and the small town you are comparing to.

    Supply screen shots of;

    Build queue (to show number of inhabitants)
    Settlement details
    Details of the governors traits.

    Here:

    Poor large city

    Rich minor city

    the tax income is 1098:787 (1.4x), but population is 26730:6230 (4.3x) - really weird

    I tried to remove the governors but the incomes are not much different

    Yes, that looks strange but I never really worry that much about the income. As I had on my screen shot the numbers don't add up anyway! I thought for a while that in mine it may have been affected by one of the Wonders which isn't reflected in the totals properly. I have Rhodes for the 40% bonus to sea trade (which isn't applicable in this settlement) but I also have Babylon (farm increase by 20%).

    What are the traits of the governors?

    One other thing, notice that the governor of your small city has 2 to management (plus probably some good trade retinue) while the governor of your large city is.... just really creepy looking. Could explain the disparity don't cha think?

    Yes, I missed that. If they are swapped over there should be an improvement in the larger settlement.
