    Default Starting Fresh

    Greeting, all.

I'm now in the process of getting all of the RTR to play, and I was wondering what is the best way to get it.

I'd like to get RTR + the mini mods, campaigns, or whatever else you want to call the other new additions, and I was wondering what's the best way to do this, since I know some don't need BI and some do.

Should I just go ahead and install vanilla RTW + BI and then download all the RTR mods? And are all the + mods different games from regular RTR?

With a single RTW-BI 1.6 installation, you can have TIC, RTR PE 1.9 (mod switch), MNM and Imperator II installed. Not sure about Ex-RM (does it uses separate mod folder or installed into RTR PE ?)

Try them both and make up your own mind. I am sure that most players run their campaigns and fight their battles in different ways.

I've experimented with a lot of the mods that are out there. Even some gong back for a second try after a more recent version of the game is released and to be pleased for the wait (EB).

Hm, once again excuse me for being a noob. ^_^

But, I have RTR 1.9 mod switch now installed and working.

Now, in order to play IC, do I need to create a fresh install of RTW BI to put IC on?

The ExRM is a mod switch mod, so you can just stick it in an installation with other mod switch mods. I've even got two different versions in one installation right now (the current one and the new one, which is currently in beta).

You can put TIC in the same folder as other mod switch mods, right? I think it makes a couple of small universal changes, like the opening movie, but besides that it's self-contained.

    Re: Gameplay RTR-PE v. ExRM
The ExRM incorporates MC's 4tpy mod, so there's one difference right off the bat. It also has three extra factions (Galatia, Britons, and Epirus) that change the dynamic in Asia Minor, the north, and Italy respectively. The Greeks tend to do better, as well, because they are free to focus on other areas.

I've also rebalanced cavalry stats a bit, so you can really tell the difference between sword and spear cavalry in a fight. The merc pool is also rebalanced for a more flavorful selection. (I recommend a California pinot noir with the Thracian mercs.) Oh, and the phalanx recruitment system has been changed to both be more realistic and force the AI to recruit more diverse armies (all agema stacks get on my nerves), thanks largely to Wien1938's suggestions.

The next version will take this development even further. It promises a much slower game, with substantially more varied armies making use of combined arms. For the first time, I'm seeing the computer recruit heavy cavalry regularly on medium campaign difficulty. It's in beta right now, and I'm really enjoying the testing.

There are a couple of surprises from two new contributors to the ExRM team, too, but I'll wait until the release to unveil those.
