Default Question about "request Papal assistance"

I'm playing as KoJ and I built the request Papal assistance thing. After a couple turns it said the Pope called a crusade, then a couple turns after that it said crusaders had landed in the holy land but I didn't see anyone. How is it supposed to work?

There should spawn a new stack of KoJ units.

Thanks, i'll have to go check out that area of the map. I assumed they would just land near Tyre or something.

Where and what spawns depends on when you called the crusade. If you call it before the year 1191 then Barbarossa will show up near constantinople. If you call it after 1191 then Richard the Lionhart will show up near Acre. There are a few more era's as well, each with a different crusader general.

I have some additional questions about the Crusade mechanic however. First off, I think it is an awesome concept and I love it. I am curious however; The "Request Papal Assitance" 'building' can be demolished and rebuilt, does this cause a new request for papal assistance? If it does not, could those buildings be made undemolishable to prevent players from wasting $1000 every 2 turns constantly trying to call crusades.

Secondly, several of the crusading armies, like Richard for example, have "siege" scripts separate from their "spawn" scripts. They seem to indicate that if KoJ is not currently in control of city "X" (Acre or Jerusalem in Richard's case) then that general should immediately be transported to siege that city. However I was able to spawn Frederic of Swabia's army while Antioch was still a Rebel city and he did not siege it himself, nor did anything out of the ordinary happen when I ordered him to siege it myself.

Since currently you just go bankrupt when they show up.

For patch 1.1 I will do the following
    - Remove cost on the papal request building (or just reduce it real low)
    - Make it permanent and non-destroyable. (destroying and rebuilding wont help currently).
    - Add a new "survival" cash script for both player and AI whenever these armies are spawned and the crusader general is alive.

About your last question: The siege order is only activated if KoJ is AI.

You can only request assistance once?

Ah, that makes sense about the siege order for AI. Ok thanks.

The survival cash would definately be a nice bit of balancing. Just have it be enough to balance out the upkeep of the army that spawns, and it I dont think it needs to last for as long as the Crusader general lives, maybe just 10-20 turns. That should be long enough for the player to compensate for the additional upkeep.

Lastly, while I understand the necessity for limiting the number of times a call for crusade can be made, would it be possible to spread out the opportunities among the various crusade eras? So instead of just having 3 chances to get a crusade (4 if you count Antioch) you would instead have 2 or 3 chances per era.

I am hoping this would not put too much imbalance on KoJ, but if it does then I'll accept the current formula.

Hey I have patch 1.05 and papal assistance is still 1000 florins and demolishable. Did you fix this?

Aetius., he said patch 1.1, didn't he?

It say on the "Papal Request" building that the request will probably only work if you have lost a major city. Even if you haven't lost one, is it still possible to get a crusading army? I would really like to see one

I lost jerusalem, and built a papal assistance in Acre. Nothing happened the next turn so I destroyed and built another one. It said the pope called a crusade, and then a few turns later Barbarossa appereared in Nicea with two stacks.

I only play KOJ, and I believe you build it after you lost one of your cities. That is what the code suggests.
