Default Should I start the game modded or not?

Hey! I'm new here to the forums. When RTW and MTW2 came out, wanted to get them but my computer couldn't run them. I got a new laptop so I just ordered MTW2 and can't wait! Anyways, I was wondering if I should just start the game unmodded or if I should start with one of the sweet mods here(Stainless steel looks pretty good...). So thought I'd ask you guys here...

    Welcome to TWC SonOfThunder!

It's probably best to play 'vanilla' M2TW first, to get a feel for the game and so you can appreciate the difference that the various mods bring to the game.

Yeah I'd agree with Harry Lime. Have a few games with vanilla and than move on when your ready to spice things up a bit.

Thanks for the replies! Yeah, that's what I think I'll do...might as well just try it out of the box, first. I'm probably going to be pretty bad anyway, so not sure if I want enhanced AI, etc, anyway! Think I'll start as the English..

I recommend getting patch 1.2 before playing it! After that you also dont need to patch before getting mods (Well, 1.3 if you want your game to be compatible with kingdoms)

And as for mods, you could try Lands To Conquer which is generally vanilla with better ai and gameplay. SS has more factions and such but requires you to pretty much fight every match on battlemap unless you totally outnumber the foe. That is, if you dont like fighting on the battlemap

Excellent suggestion. When you patch to 1.2, you are still playing vanilla, just a considerably more bug-free vanilla.

I would always recommend the vanilla ai for anyone entering into the total war series for the first time. You will soon see the weaknesses and want to move on though.

I recommend trying SS 5.1 (buy kingdoms) it is a very solid mod. Alot of the other mods are excellent too though, this is just my favourite.
