Default BC PATCH 1.05: General Feedback

why would you guys reduce population growth? some of the castles + lots of cities can't even get to citadels or even large cities even after I build all the the population buildings in a given city.

would you guys be raising the growth in some provinces + reducing some fast growth ones? I honestly dunno which ones growth too fast. I finish my KOJ campaign with most of the cities I started with just getting to minor city lvl, while 2 of them was still in town n large town lvl. I honestly dunno see population problems. the city of Jerusalem has been stuck at 16k pop, there is nothing I can do for it.

I am currently playing as the Omani, omg, their largest province is a large town :() if you nerf the growth even more, there is no way I can survive the AI spam soon to come. I will simply be out class in troop quality.

    30k in Smaraqand.
    36k in Merv
    18k in Khiva
    24k in Bulkhar
    26k in Nishapur
    23k in Urganch
18k in castle east of Nishaput
21k in city east of Nishapur.

I have such population in 1224.

I never have problems with grown. Infact its too fast.
Bulkhar starts with 5k if im not mistaken. In 50 yesrs i manage to get to to over 20k, think this is realistic ?

which faction are you playing? could be faction specific? I am sure my koj campaign lasted well over 100 turns. n I still got crummy original cities. I only got 2 of my castles to fortress.

Well once cannot argue over realism for this kind of game. But anyways, i have some cities that just wont grow. Constantinople without a good governor will not grow at all, sometimes even lose people. So hopefully this reduced growth wont make it much more difficult. -Leon
    P.S.
Constantinople is not the largest city type yet. It is around 28k if i recall. Im not sure on what year, but the mongols have arrived.

not all provinces have the same natural growth rate.

I was thinking exactly the same when I read the patch notes. Atm at 1206 with Byzantium, and the Crusaders have arrived. However I cannot even recruit native Varangian Guard yet to help defend the city, and neither can I recruit Cathapracts, or anything special really. I'm only currently in the progress of building my first fortress, and Constantinople is at a mere 18.000 inhabitants, after suffering an earthquake killing 10.000
Aeimnestus was a Spartan, famous because he killed the Persian General Mardonius at the battle of Plataea.

I had the same problem, Constantinople never advanced past a certain point and the population growth was 0% no matter what. Also for some reason it had a grayed-out building I could never construct. Hopefully the patch fixes it.

So far good. I'll test the Abbasid Caliphate next, but is it possible to give us a view settlement feature like in Rome Total War or is that Hardcoded and not possible?
Welcome to the Great Race 2015. Either IS wins or Iran bails out Assad in the nick of time. Whoever wins Iraq and Syria and everybody else loses.

    Thats probably the point.

In Vanilla every single settlement can be fully upgraded with max populations. Historically even in large and successful empires there were always backwards areas, places which didn't see the same growth and wealth the rest of the empire did. Presumably in BC this is represented by low growth rates in general and certain regions which will find it hard to or even impossible to get to the next level (with exceptions, having an exceptional Governor could turn things around).

Also, this is directed to the team, is there a system in place where only certain regions can reach the highest city/castle level and everywhere else has to make do with the 4th or even 3rd tiers?

And as for AI unit spam 1.5 is going to be rebalancing and fixing the economy and cash scripts so hopefully there should be less of that.

    @ craziii

Khwarezm Shah, each city has governor. If governor slows down growth i put him into a fort with some other useless governors and my army.

Baghdad at begining lose population, but with good upgrades it can grow quite reasonable. Huge City require 40k population IIRC.

BTW my Khiva had 2 flash floods each killing 7k.
My Urgach had 4 earthquakes each killing 3k or 4k. (and 3 seljuk merchants)

but the notes said, reduce doesn't it? it doesn't said balancing or rebalancing pop growth rate. that is what is worrying.

I agree it is worrying considering I'm suprised that due to pop issues I got Mamalukes before I can get Tawisha or Kurdish lancers, as castles grow slower than cities.

Still it did state basic pop growth rates. I'm guessing here but that could imply that cities that don't get modfyiers will be the ones really nerfed

than that faction needs to have a look at. I had my starting king of KOJ sitting in quira with full command, 8 chivalry, full piety, that city never got past 26k population, it just max out at that point. it has nothing to do with govenors really, seems like non of my cities can reach huge status. antioch has a good chance, but I finish my KOJ campaign before it even reach 20k pop, large city status.

I signed up here especially to say this (usual home is the Org)

I would like to congratulate and express my gratitude to the (small!) BC modding team for their dedication in supporting their mod and releasing a patch so quickly.

CA could learn a thing or two from these guys...
