Default How many armies can you have on the battlefield screen?

I attacked an Apache settlement that is garrisoned by a large army (1066 men) and surrounded by six other large armies with the smallest army consisting of 976 men. When I started the battle it said "Enemy Reinforcements Delayed?". The explanation said my system could not handle that number of units. I had all the settings maxed out at the time, and I thought minimizing all the setting would allow the battle to take place w/o any delayed units. I was wrong. I still got the same message.

    My system specs:
    chipset: nVidia 680i
    CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO E6700 2.66GHz
    RAM: 2GB
    GPU: Geforce 8800 GTX 768MB

Open your medieval2.preference.cfg file with a text editor and set the value "unlimited_men_on_battlefield = 1" so that it looks like mine. You have to change the value from 0 to 1. Now all the stacks will appear on the battlefield.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I was just curious if anyone else encountered the same problem.

Is anyone able to see a battle where a large army defends a large city against at least six full stacks without using the "trick" mentioned above?

I play ever thing on full settings; huge units, etc. My largest battle was the siege of Rome where 5 stacks besieged me. There were more than 13,000 men on the battlefield. There was some lag but it was playable. Lowering the graphic settings had no effect. The CPU is the limiting factor. My second largest battle was between 3 stacks of mine, all cavalry, against 3 Mongol stacks. This time there were 9,622 men on the battlefield. The lag was the same as with the other battle.

I won both battles, the first one because the time did run out for the AI.

That's amazing man. Your system is a beast but when you say playable, how many frames per seconds are we talking about here. Also what resolution and AA/AF settings do you have?

Its no beast. E6600, 2 gig of RAM and a GTS 9800 (640MB).
    AA = 8 and AF = 4. Resolution = 1280 - 1024. Here are some pictures:

I didn't use fraps so I really haven't an exact idea but my best guess would be that I had some 10 - 15 frames most of the time. I had sometimes a drop to maybe 5 to 10 but most of the tiume the battle was playable. I have seen heavier lag during sieges.

Christ, you must be right about the cpu being the main issue. I have an Athlon 64 4000 (the old FX53 'gamer' cpu), 2 gb ram and a geforce 8800 GT 512mb and just two full stacks on huge is kinda laggy, esp. during a siege. I run everything on high except shadows (off), AS (bilinear) and vsync off.

    Monsieur,
That's one piece of monster you got there.
    I'm running a dual-core 3.4GHz, GeForce 8600 GT 256 and 4 GB RAM,
running almost smooth as yours....but now you turned me on over that massive groups of armies there....looks like there's a lot to expect on that game.

I have a computer that is one year old. Specs are: E6600 (2,4 Ghz), 8800 GTS 640 MB and 2GB of ram.

To have huge armies on the battlefield and still run the game smoothly you need a fast Core 2 Duo and a decent GFX card.

I've had a battle in the Americas campaign with two of my Spanish stacks against four full Tlaxcallan stacks. 13,000 (approx., can't remember) total on map, only 2,400 hundred of which were mine.

I won that battle, for those wondering. The only reason- Tlaxcalla had nearly exclusive archers. Conquistadores earned their pay that day.
