BECOME MY VASSAL ALREADY!!!

ok so does anyone know what it will take for the AI to become your vassal. They never seem to accept it even when i have conquered all but one of their provinces and have two full stacks of troops bearing down on their last settlement. i hate it when your beating a country so badly and no matter how much you defeat their armies and take their settlements they still think they have a chance of beating you. This really becomes frustrating when an actual threat from a new enemy appears and you need your troops to fight them. Any idea on roughly what it would take for an AI to become vassal or if there are any force accept diplomacy cheats?

just kill them. after vassals get strong enough enyway, they break it off and attack you.

But wait a minute, whenever I enter into diplomatic dialogue with another faction, I never see "Become Vassal" even available on the list of Demands......

I once had Denmark ask me if they could become my vassal. They were really scared of the Mongols who pretty tore their through Russia, Poland, Hungary and a small part of the HRE to get to them.

We were big enemies at the Time and they were pretty much defended by two personal guards and a Town Militia. Too bad they ended rebeling 5 turns later.

I think, I'm not sure, but I think it might be cause you're talking to the king maybe? A high authority king ain't very easy to roll over if you know what I mean, try going to a small town with no governor and see if that works, or just one of their armies.

Well, if you want to know it exactly (at least in vanilla) it is:

So you have to border all there regions and have more then tree times the military strenght both at the frontline and overall.
But you still may have to add some bonus to sweeten this deal. If you just give them a cash gift you may get back most of it the next turn due to the vassalship (the will have to give you all money over a certain amount).

this may not help at all, but as england i managed to get france to become my vassal - i had taken only paris off them as far as i remember; i had england scotland ireland and the north coast of france...they had still a fair number of provinces and i would suspect a fair army somewhere (they were at war with a couple of people) but still my offer of peace was very generous even with me asking for a 10,000 florins or something; so i cancelled that offer and went for 'become vassal'. they did, im not sure if i ever got much money from them; i certainly didn't do any protecting of them; and i later invaded the moors who they were allied to and we broke off our relationship. basically vassals give you nada

Vassals i have seen to be the most tedious and worthless parts of M2TW. Basically all you will get out of a vassal, if you actually get them to become your vassal, is to tell your friends "hey i got a vassal!". I'm with Ponti, just kill them all, God will recognize His own.

Apparently the diplomat you use should have a lot of influence, and your overall reputation should be good. I'm trying to get the HRE to become my vassal, but my Danish King is such a bastard that the faction's reputation is completely shot to bits. I guess all those assassination missions finally took their toll.

I struggled with making other factions my vassals until recently and once you get the hang of it its easy, 'cause I played as England and now have France, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, HRE, Milan, and Hungary as vassals and am working on the Mongols and the Byzantine Empire. For anyone that wants to know how I'll explain (results may vary). As stated up top you need to reduce them to one territory but you done need 5 armies, one will do. Capture their territory in such a way as to either completely enclose in territories owned by you or down one coastal region, I've found coastal regions to be easier but its up to you.

The point is that they cant be just militarily weak but economically as well so if their enclosed they has no one to trade to and if their a coastal region all you have to do is blockade their port and cutting off their trade. Ok after that send in a diplomat (this should take multiple turns) and tell them that you want to be their new master. The first proposal will be rejected outright no matter what you offer, try it again, you probably won't get them to except but rather a not interested message and negotiations will stop.

Continue to ask them to be your vassal and DO NOT stop blockading their port and DON'T let the war end but every now and again siege the city and then unsiege it and have you diplomat come in and ask again. Usually this method takes about 3 of 4 turns but Hungary held out on me for 9 turns until they gave into my demands. Ok, now to keep them you vassal just give them gifts. Money or even giving them back one of their old territories does wonders and solidifies your relationship and your control over them, also create a fort in each of their territories and keep it garrisoned at all times just to remind them that your always watching and ready to attack when ever you please. And that is how you create and keep vassals.

Now go and make the other factions your b****es!

Like others have said, storm their cities and crush their field armies. Keep demanding vassalage, even if they refuse repeatedly. Keep up the sieges and the battles and eventually they will give in, just to survive and be left alone. But always make sure to keep a sizeable army near their town(s) in case they decide they want their independence back.

people on here have said vassleage offers nothing. Not true. You get money, trade and military freedom of movement. Plus, all your vassals teritories will now count as your own when it comes to the amount of seltements you own if you wanna complete the campaign. Just get them down to one or two cities and barely any military, with your own highly powerful army baring down on them. Give them some of their old settlements back n they will comply. This also means you can sack their cities and burn their buildings to the ground for money without having to worry about the consequences. its their problems once you give it back to them XD

Yes I never vassalaged anybody until I started to play Darthmod... Vassalaged Egypt for 1.200 lol... after that I got 10.000 every turn for another 30 turns (the AI get's scripted money when they are broke but that money goes to me arrrr) . So I played venice I could pretty much field 4 stacks of decent units with only 3 cities

Follow my guide and you will love having vassals, the stronger they are the more money they will give you....

I usually give my vassals more money then i get from them. Like 30 000 florins sometimes per turn, because i want them to be strong. They surround my empire and its good if they are strong when somebody tries to invade me.
