Crash to desktop

Hey,
just reinstalled Rome total war, downloaded rtr 1.9, installed it following instructions, then when ever i go to play a custom game it crashes to desktop? anyone plz help.

Have you deleted the map.rwm files? Do you get any error message? Because based on the few details you give I can olny start guessing. Theoretically if you have installed it as per instructions you should be able to play it.

I have deleted all the files yes, and windows gives me a message that rome total war had to be stopped.

When you launch the game what is the version number of the game? If you go into the options menu it is displayed in the top right hand corner.

Are you able to play the campaign (you only indicated that the game did a CTD on custom battles).

Please supply a screen shot of the message.

version 1.9, i cannot play anything on it without if crashing to desktop, literall all the messgae says is, "Rome total war has stopped working" then option of close, or check for solution (checking for solution does nothing)

No, what version of RTW have you got?

If you can launch RTW it will be on the top right hand side of the options menu.

well i have the gold edition rome total war, so i have all the patches, 1.5, 1.6

I have the rome total war gold edition. I've played maney rounds but suddenly it started crashing every time I try to play a battle. This happens in both Rome Total War and Barbarian Invation. On all my saves. It works if I automatically resolve battle, but it crashes during loding if i try to play out the battle.

Any one know what would solve the problem?

Have you included the '-show_err' switch to your shortcut target? If you don't know how to do this have a look at the bottom of this following link (it 's for RTR PE but as it states at the top it was originally done for RTR).

Were you able to fight battles on the battle map before it started to CTD? Is your graphics card overheating?

First thing to do is to reduce your graphic settings and see if you can play a battle.

Also, have you done any changes to the game? As in made modifications to the files yourself or installed other mods/add-ons on top or RTRPE.

EDIT: speaking of which, you didn`t say what version of RTR you are using or whether you`re using any mod at all.

I have not added any patches at all. I have the RTW Gold edition. It says in the game that the RTW is a 1.5 v and RTW BI is 1.6. Is there any patches that might fix my problem?

I played RTW for a very long time with everything working perfectly. Then I tried RTW BI. After 6 or 7 rounds it suddenly crashed while I was loading a battle. Havent managed to load a battle since then..

Are you running the game through the desktop shortcut? What sort of messages do you get when you try to include the -show_err switch.

Some compute setups have the target in quotes (as below) and others do not.

"C:\Program Files\Activision\RTR PE\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

Which version of RTR PE did you install? The mod switch version or the stand alone one?
